If your brushroller isn't spinning it will make the loud sound. Try removing the brushroll and reinstalling it. If this doesn't work, you may need a new brushroller. You can find one here...

SOURCE: DC17 Animal - loud noise in roller bar

We were able to get in touch with the Dyson support people and they told us this model doesn't have a clutch in the roller bar. The support person helped us walk through looking at the vacuum and it turns out the belt was stripped and they are sending us a new replacement belt. Case Solved!!

Did you check the roller brush to make sure it was clear of debris?

That is an indication that the belts are worn, stretched or broken. You simply need to replace the belt. Here is a link to the belt(s) you need and a manual you can view:

The cog belt is probably not aligned with the motor gear. Watch this video and follow its instructions closely.

Dyson dc17 makes loud noise on carpet setting. It's like a high pitch ringing almost but won't make the noise on hard floor, only carpet setting. Ive checked for blockages and cleaned all parts but makes...

It is probably the brush roll motor making the noise. Remove the brush roll & belt and turn both motors on. If you do not hear the noise when both motors are running the noise is likely coming from the brush roll

Sounds like the beater bar hits the front plastic makes a loud awful noise

Hi Cathy,

Your DC33's brush control is designed to make a ratcheting sound to warn you if something is jamming the brush bar. You should be able to resolve this by making sure the cleaner head is free of any obstructions, and removing any threads or hair from around the brush bar. For guidance in doing this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc33/dc33-multi-floor/dc33-maintaining-your-dyson-machine/how-to-remove-a-blockage/from-the-brushbar/removing-debris-from-the-brushbar

This should resolve the issue, but if you're still concerned about the machine after following these steps, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US), so we can provide further assistance.

Best wishes,

Jack

When in carpet mode, brushes seem to be hitting something. Brushes cleaned - how to stop making the awful noise

LOL do you mean when you move the vacuum forward (say into a baseboard)? it makes the loud shocking noise.. i hate that too.. but that's the crazy Warning sound indicating something is stuck (like you sucked up an area rug) or you have run into something and it set off a sensor.

Dyson eats my carpet

When using the Dyson or for that matter any other vacuum cleaner that has a motorized roller brush, you need to make sure that you AVOID open carpet edges since the suction end ( which has a roller with the brush) will grab open fiber ends. You should use an attachment or floor tool when cleaning open edges of your rug or carpet. Most vacuum cleaners come with a range of attachments that be used be used appropriately.

Belt wont turn makes a loud noise when put on carpet setting

If this is a Dyson with a protected belt that can't be replaced then it will have to be sent out to Dyson or get a Dyson servicepersonnel to check it over - protected belt motors are difficult to fix by yourself. If its clicking all the time, then it means the belt has to be replaced. In the mean time check that there are no obstructions on the beater bar and behind it and also check that the brush stop roller at the top of the hood is in the right position. It should move automatically when the handle is swung down in normal operation.
