Poor quality of viewing Photos, Online TV and Videos
I have a View-Sonic monitor, every time I look at photos or watch on-line tv or view videos and such the screen is darker than regular work I do on my PC. I have tried all the trouble shooting suggested, to no avail.
Help! Thank you, Renee

It's time to responsibly recycle your old CRT monitor, and spend about $100 to buy a new 17" or 19" LCD screen, rather than spending any money at a qualified TV/video technician, trying to trouble-shoot the problem.
It really depends on your experience you can find many deals. Personally I live view sonic for cost effectiveness and overall performace. I WOULD NOT buy an Acer the last Acer had a static splash screen that burned the dislay wit hte ACER logo on a server in a cabinet. The overall quality was poor on a few others we bought.
I like new egg for my electronics here is a link to a very nice 21.5 inch view sonic and compared to the Samsung 24 inch (the following link)

If Ihad 300.00 to spend I would by the samsung but if cost including shipping is the factor then I would get the ViewSonic. I would choose one of these two monitors. Based on contrast ratio (great for gamming and video) Please rate me
Yes, they are on the front of the screen. There should be a volume up and down button right on the front (usually to the left of the power). If there isn't a separate up and down, try the Menu or 1 and 2 buttons.
I have a similar problem with a 2 year old Samsung monitor. I have tried to make a screen dump of it, but the horizontal lines do not show up then. This I have read indicates that the problem is in the monitor and not the video card.
What is wrong with your monitor is that the Horizontal section is going faulty, the lines you are seeing are the Horizontal Retrace lines, usually invisable in a working unit. It is often a faulty capacitor(s) OR a Diode breaking down.. in the area of the Flyback Transformer. Probably time for a new one unless ya can fix it yaself.
