A full feature software and driver package for Windows 7 is not available for your product. However, the Windows 7 operating system installed on your computer contains a basic driver solution for your product. With the basic driver, some of the advanced product features are not available. You can print from a software program, and import and view images on a memory card, if your product has a memory card slot. With this basic driver, the buttons on the product do not function and some of the advanced product features are not available. How to Scan a Document in Windows 7 By Greg Harvey The Windows Fax and Scan utility enables you to scan documents and pictures. Before you can scan documents and pictures, you must have a scanner installed on your computer. Your scanner must be listed in the Devices section of the Devices and Printers Control Panel window.

To check to see if your scanner is properly installed, open the Device Stage. Choose Start?Devices and Printers. If Windows doesn't automatically find your scanner, you can manually add it in the Devices and Printers window by clicking the Add a Device button in the toolbar and following the wizard's commands.

  1. Choose Start?All Programs?Windows Fax and Scan.

Windows 7 opens the Windows Fax and Scan window.

  2. Click the Scan button in the Navigation pane, then click the New Scan button on the toolbar.

The New Scan dialog box for your scanner opens.

  3. Use the settings on the right to describe your scan.

By letting the computer know what you're scanning, its color profile, and the type of file you plan to create, you enable Windows Fax and Scan to create the highest quality scan.

  4. Click the Preview button to see what your document will look like.

    Make any last minute changes.

  5. If you're happy with the preview, click the Scan button.

Windows scans the document and presents you with an image of your document.

  6. Click the Save As button and complete the necessary information.

Enter the filename, the type of graphics file you want saved, and then click the Save button.

To automatically forward the document you've just scanned as an attachment to a new fax message, click the Forward as Fax button.

The scan feature in the Windows Fax and Scan utility is set primarily to scan text documents. If you want to scan a photograph or other graphic, you're better off doing that directly within the Windows Live Photo Gallery.

You can't fax while it is printing, but you can fax between print jobs. It will receive a fax and store it until the print job completes.
Hope that helps.

My Microsoft Vista does not have a "fax and scan" programme> What can I do?

Windows Fax and Scan, available in the Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions of Windows Vista, makes it easy to send and receive faxes, scan documents and images, and share those items with others-right from your computer.
If you have Vista Home Basic/Premium and you want to fax from your
computer, you will need a third-party faxing program that is compatible
with Vista.
here is a site with fax software you can buy that will do what you need.

Also there are a few sites that offer fax over the internet:

This should answer some questions for you and get you faxing again .
Please rate if this solves your problem.

Can not get my printer to work

Hello Frezza,
First off.. we need to determine if your printer is communicating with your computer and if so.. is it operating correctly.. If you go to the START button ( lower left bottom of your screen) select that and then choose Printers or Faxes ,...or... control Panel and then printers and faxes... Once there.. choose the printer icon with your right mouse button and selct properties.. on the next screen.. select 'printtest page' does it work ? If yes, then your system is OK.. if not, then you may need to check the cables and/or printer itself for having a problem.. There are several suggestions if your test print fails and you select that it didn't print.. Troubleshooting guide sequence of steps.. Good luck

How do I fax?

Sending a fax from your computer requires a fax modem and that your operating system be configured to allow you to send and receive faxes.

to send from fax software
step 1 Prepare the document that you want to fax. Step2 Prepare a fax cover sheet, if desired. Step3 Open your fax software - such as Microsoft Fax or Microsoft Exchange. Step4 Look for an icon or menu command that allows you to send a fax - such as Send New and Send Fax. Click on that item. Step5 Follow instructions for entering the fax number of the recipient and any other requested information. Be sure to include area codes and long-distance information if needed. Step6 Indicate whether you wish to send a cover sheet. Step7 When asked to attach the file, follow instructions to attach the file that you want to fax. Step8 When ready, click Send. The fax will begin to compile the information and, when ready, will dial the remote fax machine. Step9 When the connection is made, the fax will be sent. To Fax From Your Word Processing Program Step1 Some software products, such as Microsoft Word, allow you to fax a document without opening your fax software. Step2 Open the document that you want to fax. Step3 From the File menu, select Print. The Print window opens. Step4 Instead of printing to your default printer, look for an option that allows you to Print to Fax. Select this option and click Print. Step5 You will be asked to provide the recipient's fax number and other assorted information as with a fax program. Step6 The fax message compiles, the modem dials. If the connection is made with the other modem, the fax will be sent.

232-A communication failure has occurred between the two machines.
327-*Reattempt the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.
356-The remote user has pressed the Stop key, causing the session to be aborted.
442-An error occurred during transmission after one or more partial pages had been sent. The transmitting machine was unable to restart the control channel (handshaking) before sending more data. This error typically occurs when the receiving fax disconnects after receiving part of a page but can also occur if the receiving fax is using a fax format that is incompatible with the HP fax machine (usually during color faxing).

Can a Lexmark X4270 be used as a stand alone copier and fax without being hooked to the computer?

Absolutely! The only thing needed for use as a fax is being plugged into a live phone line. These are specifically designed for just that purpose so the computer does not have to be left running while fax machine and copier remain on in the office. Mainly so the office can shut down the computer when not needed to save power when not needed. Ex. to receive faxes at night when the office is closed. You only need to leave the printer on and it will function as a stand alone copier fax machine. The computer is only required when you want to print a document or scan a page and save it. I hope this fully answers your question.
If you have others feel free to ask.

I would like to use my epson stylus cx7800 to receive and send fax's. Can this be done. Please explain and instruct. Thanks. lstrat@telusplanet.net

If you are running Windows, and have a modem, you can use the Windows Fax Services which are built in.

You may not have it installed, as it's an optional component. Go to Control Pane/Add Remove programs. Select Windows Components on the left hand side. If Fax services is not checked, do so, and press OK. You may need your original Windows install CD to complete the task.

If you still need help with this, please respond to this message. If I have solved your problem, I would appreciate you rating this as "solved".

Good Luck
