My plug has been changed how do I get ep off of my unit

Which plug did you change? "EP" stands for Extended Play. A VHS recorder has three speeds. EP is the slowest. A standard 2-hour tape will record for 2 hours at the highest speed (SP), 4 hours at the middle speed (SP) and 6 hours in EP. There is a trade off. The faster the tape moves past the recording/playback heads, the higher the picture quality and visa versa. So EP gives you long recording time at a cost in quality.

I doubt that the unit being in EP mode has anything to do with the cable. You did not say what brand and model recorder you have, but in general, the speed is adjusted with a switch on the front panel (older models) or via your remote control.

You can find your original remote for your product at www.replacementremotes.com.

SONY keeps switching to EP at beginning of playing SP tapes

You may have dirty heads in the vcr---most 4 head machines use two for sp and the other two for lp and or ep.

Tape residue will usually be seen on the drum where the heads are when this happens--also look for the black residue on the tape guides that hold the tape in position against the drum-------

I cannot find my manual what is the speed to record on the vcr for 8 hours

Unfortunately, most VCR recorders/tapes don't have an 8 hour option. It is 2 hours on SP (standard), LP for 4 hours or EP (SLP, depending on the unit) for 6 hours. (The slower recording speed usually gives poorer video quality.)

You would need a non-standard VCR cassette to get 8 hour recording. If you do have a tape that would hold 3 hours at SP, then use an EP setting to get 8 hours of recording on your VCR. I don't think I've seen any tapes that do that recording length even when VCRs were popular.

I wish that I had better news.

I bought a tv/vcr combo from a guy no remote no manual i have a universal remote for it i am trying to run the tape in ep mode but i cant get it to change over i see the option for it in the menu i can...

sometimes a universal remote will lack certain functions like that or label them differently if possible put it on the vcr controls and try to scroll down to the ep input alot of the time it will be in between 99-01 unfortunately you may need to contact the manufacturer and see about downloading a manual for it if you would like us to please just leave the model number and make of both tv and remote and we can run a compatibility test to ensure you should be getting full function

Changing from sp to ep

it will automatically play at the speed the tape was recorded at. but if you want to change record speeds here's how: you should be able to access menu functions from the front of the vcr, if so, put a tape to be recorded into the unit and then set the timer for a couple of minutes.while you are on the timer menu it will ask you for recording speed. set the timer record speed to ep and let it record for two minutes and let it record for the full time untill it stops recording. the record speed will automatically change settings to whatever you used last on timer record.

Changing the Recording speed from SP to EP on TV/VCR Combo using universal remote?

I am sorry to have to tell you this, but the only way to change the recording speed is with an original remote. If you look on the original replacement remote link I posted here you will see the SP/EP selector, this is to change the recording speed. Good Luck. http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=gmi&smodel=DS13TVR90&brand_pn=FISHER_DS13TVR90&mode=large&uid=11755283300930
