See if your local print cartridge refillers have a flushing solution. They might offer a service for people to bring their printers to the store. In the UK there is Cartridge World.

My HP Office Jet printer is about 10 years old. Just recently it has been printing only in shades of red. No other color except black works good? I have changed the cartridge twice and same thing, so...

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
Sir if your printer just prints red shades then it Most likely this is a print head issue. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. To attempt to resolve it, do the following:
(1) Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. If for some reason it does not follow these instructions:(a) Unplug the printer (b) Manually slide the carriage over until you can get the ink cartridges out.(2) Remove the ink cartridges from the print head.(3) Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water or a mix of hot water and isopropyl alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head.(4) Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab.(5) Once finished, allow to dry and replace the cartridges(6) Try to print something now
If that does not work then you have one of two possibilities:(1) One of the ink cartridges is defective and causing the error(2) If it's definitely not that, then the print head will need to be replaced.
I hope this solution helps you.Don't hesitate to let me know if you have some confusion.
Sir, Your Rating as Maximum Stars and Words of Appreciation will be esteemed.
Thank you for taking my service.

Printer sat a year without ink cartidges, now wont print

Leaving inkjet printers alone for a long time generally results in the print heads getting clogged. Try cleaning them by following the steps on this page. If this does not work, you may need to replace them.

Good luck! :)

Epsonstylus CX7800- when printing color

well you must use the correct ink, you use a very thin ink, that´s way it´s bleeds, the ink is very metal corrosive, and destoy al mec. parts and bunsout the print head. NOTE:you have ruined your printer, the repair is very expensive.

C84 Wont print red

The printer colour cartridges are magenta, cyan and yellow. The printer prints "red" by mixing magenta and yellow ink. So, if you only get yellow when you print red, it means you aren't getting any magenta ink on the paper.

Have you tried a cleaning cycle? If not, try one (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select head clean). Now run a nozzle check (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select nozzle check). Is there any sign of magenta ink on the paper. Try up to three cleaning cycles. If ink is now flowing, but not yet perfectly, don't carry out any more cleaning cycles. Just leave the printer for 24 hours (to allow any air in the print head to disperse). Then repeat the cleaning cycle/wait process. It may take a while to restore a perfect nozzle check print.

If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, are you sure you have a good magenta ink cartridge? To eliminate the possibility of a faulty cartridge, buy a new set of compatibles on E-Bay - they're very cheap. You can always re-use the old one later if it turns out it is OK.

If none of the above works, then you may have blocked magenta print head nozzles. You can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves out of its parking position, pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid
comes up over the print head. Do not turn the printer on at any stage in this process. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then turn the printer on and try a head clean/nozzle check again. If you get any magenta ink on the nozzle check, then there is hope! Repeat the process until you get a full magenta nozzle check. If nothing, repeat the process once more.

If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

I am unable to print anything at all.It goes through the process.

Hi!
I originally gave this fix for another post, but this might help you out too. I have an MP390 which once gave me a similar problem, but I managed to fix it and continue to maintain it using this technique.
Anyway, here are the steps! :^)

Outline:
Open the printer as though you were going to replace the ink tanks. Once opened, with the print head centered, open the latch to release the print head. Gently remove the print head (it should come right out, even easier than the ink cartridges normally would). Take a paper towel, wet it with warm water, and then gently clean the bottom part of the print head. The bottom part is the part that will have an orange ribbon running to four metal openings that look like tiny nozzles. After wiping away all of the built-up gunk (on mine there was a thick sludge), grab a new and wet paper towel, and lightly press it against the nozzles. This should start sucking ink through the print head, and you will begin to see four distinct colors (CMYK) bleeding into the towel. Once done, lightly dry the print head off (make sure that there are no loose water droplets) and then reassemble everything. Print a test page and everything should work. If it doesn't change the ink tanks just to be sure.

Fortunately for you, Canon has made the print head on the MP390 very easy to service/remove, so cleaning is a snap.

Steps:
  1. Turn Printer On
  2. Open Printer As If To Change Ink Tanks
  3. Release Ink Tank Latch
  4. Remove Print Head (Black Plastic Assembly In Which Ink Tanks Rest)
  5. Use Wet Paper Towel (With Warm Water) To Clean Tank/Nozzle
  6. Dry Excess Water
  7. Reassemble
  8. Close Printer
  9. Print Test Page

Good luck!!!
