My washer intermittenly doesnt spin - not all water is pumped out (response)
Thanks for the solution. Is the basket drive the same as the transmission/gearbox? I found, with further observation, that what seems to be the real problem is that it doesn't always spin. If i open the lid, and turn the basket manually, the spin cycle will work most times. Then do i need to replace the transmission or the moter assy.

let the machine rest for a long time (cool off) then with no water or clothes try spinning it...
no spin problem can be several headaches:
too much clothes (too heavy)
drive coupler broken
broken lid switch
clothing in pump
clothing in between basket
clutch locked up
brake locked up
it is hard to determine exactly without being there to help you...just check what you can... if you have additional questions let me know
. If water does not pump out and not spin, check lid swicth. If it pumps the water out but does not spin you could have one of the 3 following problems. Ck in this order. Drive couplin is bad between motor and transmission. usally will make a rattleing noise/chatter. Next possible clutch. While hold lid switch down with pencil or something small spin tub with hand. if it takes off and spin replace basket drive and possible clutch if doing this much tear down. last of the 3/ look around the sides of the basket holes with a flash light for something like a sock/ rag or something like that has gotten between the outer tub and basket. it is hard to see but with a good light you can see it or remove cabinit and check sides of outter tub . you can see through the tub.
could have a problem with the basket drive tube assy,,,,what happened to mine was the brass t-post on the bottom of the basket drive tube had been ground off causing my clip that holds on the brake release arm to fall off,the arm and cam fell down and thus had no spin,,,i bought a used tube installed it with a new clutch and it works fine now! I'd check that are of machine!
Hi, The coupler replaces the belt and it could have broke. Other options are, the lid switch is bad or the spin basket drive assembly or the transmission. If the coupler is broke, the washer will not agitate either. If the lid switch is bad, the motor will not run either while in spin cycle. If the spin basket drive or transmission are bad, it might spin a little but not strong enough to get the water out of the clothes.
Does nay of these sound like they are what is going on with your washer?
Please let me know if this has helped you at all or if I can assist you further.
Amana ALW480DAW seems to be not completely draining. When I start a new load water in basket becomes dingy and smells. Washer smells when it has not been used for a couple of days. We have checked the outflow and inflow drain tubes found no problems. It seems to spin and agitate normally, it drains to a point and leaves water in it, not visible in the basket. When we blow on the outflow tube when it is done draining there is still water present, we can hear it bubble.
Sounds like you have got a basket drive and sub-pack issue. These are very hard to change out because it requires you to remove the inner basket, motor, transmission, agitator, pump, etc. The part number for these are:
