Question about Heating & Cooling

5 Answers

My Drayton Digistat RF3 boiler control is not working. The thermostat module indicates it is sending a signal, but the unit beside the boiler has a red alarm LED lit. I've removed the batteries and turned it off, re-programed it all and still no success. I have to use the manual override button to get the heating on or off. Is the unit broken? Anything else I can do?

    We have a RF3 transmitter and a SCR receiver. The two are not talking to each other. Have replaced the batteries in the transmitter but still have a solid red led on the receiver. Any ideas. Cheers

I found that this solved the problem hope it helps you too.

1. Turn off the power supply to the Digistat SCR (receiver unit)
and leave for 5 seconds.
2. Turn on power to SCR unit and check red light is on.
3. Press override button No.2 and check the green light comes
on and boiler fires.
4. Press & hold down button No.1 (Keep depressed), then
press No.2 and keep depressed. {The Red LED light will flash
a couple of times and then it will go out}
5. Now release both the buttons – {the two LED lights should
come back on}
6. Get the Digistat+2RF/+3RF unit and stand two metres away
from the SCR unit with the Digistat+2RF/+3RF unit in your hand.
7. Remove the battery cover and fit the batteries.
8. The Red LED light on the SCR will now flash for approx. 7
seconds.
9. This confirms that the radio signal is being sent and
received.
10. The Digistat+2RF/+3RF and the SCR are now successfully
linked by a dedicated RF address.

I have the same problem. The digistat is only 3 years old; the prob first started after 2 years but replacement batteries fixed it then.

Have any of the previous users found a solution? Or is this another 'Toyota situation'?

    I had this problem on a receiver when it was about 4 years old. I tried all the above. The receiver showed the correct green/red light sequences but there was no click when heat was demanded and the green light was on.I checked continuity with a meter. Contacts had not closed.
    I traced problem to the relay under the black cover, rear of receiver. I carefully bent the relay contact so that it made better contact when the relay was energized. After that it worked fine. As a precaution I bought a seperate receiver now 22149. I paid £42 in 2007 they are now £64!.
    I have two wireless systems in my house and the second receiver has just had the same problem. I think Drayton have a quality problem but as long as they are selling expensive spares perhaps they don't care. Hope this helps someone. Both wireless systems were bought in 2003

    mate you are a rockstar! I have been ready to throw the entire boiler out of the window for weeks! Its been getting gradually worse for a while - finally took the reciever off the wall and found the black cover (about the size of a postage stamp and on the bit in your hand not the bit one the wall - for any other readers) Difficult to get it off, but once it came the relay switch is pretty obvious - gave it a gentle bend and Bob, as they say, is yer uncle! Thanks for posting the solution - you are a hero in our house!!!!

    This made sense to me as well, intermittant operation of valve - had swapped valve heads to verify not problem; plumber said valve head microswitch, but this did not make sense as HW worked with fine with both. Have 'adjusted' contacts as suggested & given light clean. Well worth a try before replacing the receiver.

We had the same problem, red light constantly on, no signal from sender unit. Tried to reprogram, no use. when looking closely at the battery trays, noticed that they were both covered in snot from leaking batteries. Cleaned them up & bent the internal contacts down a bit to press harder on the batteries, & Bob' s yer auntie's live in lover!

How to programme rc2 british gas thermostat

The British Gas RC2 is a re-badged Drayton Digistat and I managed to find installation and operating manuals for that at www.gasapplianceguide.co.uk

Go to the section 'Lost your instructions' and look for Drayton 2F & 3F Digistats (earlier type) for a downloadable copy of the manuals.

Following them got my RC2 up and running though it was a bit fiddly at times.

Hope this helps.

Where can I download a user manual for a British gas WR1 thermostat? I've searched the net with no joy so far.

From what I've found - these are re-badged Drayton stats. I'm not familiar with the "BG" brand or the Drayton for that matter as I'm in the US - but they are apparently enjoy some popularity in the UK.

I found this on the Drayton stats. The BG WR1 is either the Drayton RF1, RF2 or RF3 (depending on configuration). All of them are pictured towards the bottom of the link provided previously. Links for each model's Installation, Operation and Quick Guide instruction manuals are next to each picture.

I hope this helps. Please rate my reply - thanks.

I need the operating manual for british gas wireless central heating thermostat control RC2, WR1, UP2.

These are Drayton Digistat controls re-badged. RC2 = Digistat2
WR1 = Digistat SCR
Cannot now find manual for Digistat2, but updated Digistat2+ can be found at http://www.draytoncontrols.co.uk/Digistat2RFProgrammableRoomThermostatWireless.aspx
The Commissioning Guide will show the SCR and now to reset it.

Drayton Digistat SCR thermostat not working.

Go online to www.cheapboilers.com who deal with this type of boiler. It would be very difficult to troubleshoot this boiler with the information supplied. I hope this will be of some help to you.
Sincerely, Shastalaker7
They should also be able to get you a manual for your thermostat.

I have a digistat scr with a flashing red light and no heating there is nothing wrong with the batteries, this only occured after a poweer cut.

Try this first before condeming the unit.

and leave for 5 seconds.
2. Turn on power to SCR unit and check red light is on.
3. Press override button No.2 and check the green light comes
on and boiler fires.
4. Press & hold down button No.1 (Keep depressed), then
press No.2 and keep depressed. {The Red LED light will flash
a couple of times and then it will go out}
5. Now release both the buttons – {the two LED lights should
come back on}
6. Get the Digistat+2RF/+3RF unit and stand two metres away

7. Remove the battery cover and fit the batteries.
8. The Red LED light on the SCR will now flash for approx. 7
seconds.
9. This confirms that the radio signal is being sent and
received.
10. The Digistat+2RF/+3RF and the SCR are now successfully

Boiler Thermostat

In desperation, I trawled the internet and am pretty sure that these are manufactured by Drayton, either a Drayton Digistat +2 or Digistat +3

Try this page http://www.gasapplianceguide.co.uk/drayton_central_heating_controls.htm

Good Luck!
