This problem probably is due to poor telephone line reception or interferrence. Although that problem may be caused by the use of remote telephones in the same building, it may also be caused by loose or damaged telephone connectors. If you have "call waiting" service, this too may cause the interferrence. It is unlikely that the firmware settings need to be adjusted, as you say there is no problem while sending a fax. If, during transmission, that interferrence occurred, then it would automatically resend and you wouldn't necessarily know it.
