Question about Vtech I5881 Cordless Phone
You hear the outgoing message fine but after the beep and before you can utter one syllable, the machine cuts you off (beeps at you) so the caller is unable to leave a message. This occurs randomly and without warning. It does not seem to matter if the caller is calling from a home (land line) or cell phone, or if there are messages or not on the machine. The number of messages does not seem to matter and we only use mailbox 1 for messges. It will do it several times in a row and then later in the day, a caller is able to leave a message just fine. V-tech was of NO help in this matter other than to say the softtware was scrambled by a power surge. My friends are getting peeved with my machine! Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Unplugging the phone will only fix the problem temporary!
Can anyone fix it for good? I am fed up of unplugging it every day.
No line... no line no line!

unplugging the unit from the power source and waiting 30seconds seems to be the answer. the answering machine is working and i can call out again.
thanks you to everyone who posted that answer in different parts of FixYa.

SOURCE: answering machine is scrambled
I had the same problem, even took one phone and base set back for new trade. I had the same problem with the second one until I installed a DSL internet Filter in my telephone input line. That cured the problem.

See:http://www.testfreaks.com/blog/review/vtech-ls6245-cordless-phone-with-bluetooth/. Looks like you could at least with this one. I am also looking to do the same.

Tips for a great answer:
Recording the Outgoing Announcement
For best results when recording, you should be about nine inches from the microphone,
and eliminate as much background noise as possible.
1. Make sure the answering system is On2. Press and hold the announce button on the base.
3. Begin speaking after you hear the beep.
4. Release the button when you finish your announcement.
NOTE: If you choose not to record an outgoing announcement, a default
announcement plays instead. To return to the default announcement after
you have recorded your own outgoing announcement, press the announce
button and release it when you hear the beep.
Sample Outgoing Announcement
"Hi, this is (use your name here), I can't answer the phone right now, so
please leave your name, number and a brief message after the tone, and
I'll get back to you. Th anks.
