Question about Gateway Media Center 610XL (610XLMDIA) PC Desktop

Disassembly of gateway 610XL

Does anyone know how to disassemble the monitor part of this machine?
I tried the screws on the back and I have even gone as far as disassembling the part with the power supply. Any pictures or help would be appreciated.

Take cover off top of base.- pry off
remove two screws that hold speaker unit, it will tilt out, disconnect cables and remove speaker.
two screws on back of base and then take off back cover.remove sheild cover.
disconnect all cables. 4 screws hold power supply in.
rca connector board has little black button holding it on. pry up and then remove board to access connecters behind.
pull all cables out towards you.
remove 6 screws that hold base to back of screen, pull up tape under where cables go thru hole.
remove base from screen.
take out screws on back of screen. carefully pry all around case to seperate.
remove back, and then sheild. there are a few screws that hold it on.
If your screen was black, then the two inverter boards could be the problem. there is one in the upper left corner and one in the lower left corner. you can by them on internet. match the partnumber, there are 2 diffent ones.

How do i get the back cover off to get to the power supply? I have all the screws and the pedestal removed.

jmeyerle, Try viewing a few "lcd monitor disassembly" video clips and some "lcd monitor repair" clips at YOUTUBE first!! "PARTING" the REAR " COVER" from the front "BEZEL" hardest thing to do!!!! Don't use any sharp cutting instruments or you may incur costly trip to local hospital "ER" for 3 to 30 sutures. Protect the glass lcd panel at all times to prevent cracking it!!!! Start at "bottom" edge of case. 12fixlouie

Replace DC power plug on Gateway CX210X laptop

Ok I just did this on my Gateway it is a different model though. I am not sure where you are stuck so I will start from the beginning. Remove all the screws from the back, then remove all the components (hard drive, cd rom, network card, battery etc.) beneath these components are more screws remove them. I do not know if you have removed your keyboard if not there are screws attatching it to the motherboard on the bottom remove those mine had three in various places like by the network card and dvd rom. If you are unsure consuly gateways website there are instructions for removing your keyboard. Beneath the keyboard there are more screws you will need to remove the monitor adapter in the rear unplug it from the motherboard and beneath it there are more screws. When you think you have removed them all gently pull on the motherboard from every side if it moves freely on eachside you are ready to dislodge it from the casing. If there is a location that is still firmly in place inspect that area from the top and bottom you should be able to locate the remaining screw.
The mother board does not slip out once all screw are removed it is lodged firmly in the case especially by the fan vent you have to coax it out.

How do I change the video card in my 610XL PC?

After the side of the case is opened and the computer unpluged and the video to the monitor unplugged, if it has a card already installed , remove the screw holding the card down then pull the old card straight up out of the card slot. Align the new card that you purchased , pushing it straight down into the slot. Install the hold down screw. Reinstall the side . Install the software after hooking  the computer and monitor up.   If you don;t jknow which type of card ,down load a manual and maybe even further instructions from the weblink I provided.

Below it the Gateway support center for your model. All you have to do is to put in your 22 digit serial number.

Monitor won't turn on?

I would double check you power connection to the monitor, if that's good. I would say that your monitor has gone bad on you. If it's still under warranty by chance take it back, if not you will need to get a replacement monitor.

I hope this helps,

Thanks for using FixYa,
