SOURCE: Noise from gearbox near front sprocket.

Your bike may need the harmonic balancer chain adjusted. Th will notice is noise is very prominent at engine idle and low RPM's. When this chain get lose you will feel the vibration even in the handlebars if it is loose enough.

SOURCE: Front sprocket

Hi ........... One tooth less will give you more top speed (if you can pull top revs) but will reduce accelleration. If you go for one tooth less you'll need to tighten the chain and/or remove a link. It's a trade off ............ decide what you want the bike to do.

SOURCE: exsessive grease coming from chain sprocket area

If the grease is really thick and you don't lube the chain with that type of grease, then it would have to be from the swing arm being over-greased. If the grease is liquid then it would be coming from the output shaft seal. Get a new seal then remove the sprocket and clean the output shaft. Now remove the old seal and install the new seal.

By the way, if the oil in the gearbox looks like grease then it is past time for an oil and filter change. 10w40 motor oil.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!

SOURCE: how is the best way to get front drive sprocket off of my yamaha

A screw driver, impact possibly depending on how tight the screws are, and a 10mm socket. there is a locking plate that will need tapping out of the way, a plate that goes between the 2 10mm heads and the sprocket center. it's pretty easy once you see it. there should be a half engine casing to take off on the chain side of the engine/gearbox at the rear end.either cross head screws or alen bolts.

Chain noise

its not a good idea to ride with an engine noise that you've never had before..you might get stranded somewhere. Did you insure that your chain is not tight...its better to be too lose than too tight, give it an inch up down play, And you have to make sure that the rear sprocket angle is inline with the front sprocket, if not it will where out the sprockets and probably make some kind of noise. Hope you find this info helpful.
