Shortly after I purchased my L7580, I got a message saying that my magenta cartridge was either missing or damaged. I called tech support. They walked me through a dozen or so things to try. Nothing fixed the problem. I had only printed about thirt pages, maybe two using color. I bought a new Magenta 88XL cartridge and that fixed the problem. Soon after, the cyan cartridge did the same. I replaced it with a new Cyan 88XL. I replaced all four cartridges within two months of buying the printer. That was about two months ago. I turned the printer off for a bit this morning, when I turned it back on, two of my new cartridges are supposedly bad. I think the printer is a piece of junk.

Return them to where you bought them and get replacements for them. You should be able to exchange them easily with the receipt.

THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS ARE A BAD CHIP ON THE TONER CARTRIDGE OR A BAD OR BROKEN SENSOR IN THE BACK OF THE PRINTER WHERE YOUR CARTRIDGE IS INSTALLED.
THE MOST COMMON ONES ARE THE YWLLOW AND THE MAGENTA FOR SOME REASON.
SCINCE IT IS REPORTING JUST ONE COLOR IT MOST LIKELY IS NOT THE CONTROLER BOARD.
CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE SENSOR LINES UP TO THE CHIP WHEN YOU INSTALL THE TONER!

also also if it is an ink cartidge not a toner(some people say I have a bad ink cartridge when meaning toner)

check where the cartridge goes in and make sure the connections are ok.

and if this is a printer with print heads you might have to change them.

if so replace just the magenta first and if that fixes it then replace the rest of them cause they will be going soon.

1) NEED TO KNOW WHAT MAKE AND (MODEL) OG LASER JET THIS IS BUT MOSTLY THIS KIND OF TROUBLE IS CAUSED BY A BAD CHIP ON THE TONER CARTRIDGE OR THE SENSOR IN THE BACK OF THE PRINTER IS BAD OR BROKEN.
THE MAGENTA AND THE YELLOW ARE THE MOST COMMON

Did you remove the protective foil/film/cap from the cartridges before installing them and do they seem to be sitting at the same height as the other cartridges?
Refer to printer documentation means read the printer's manual, the documents supplied with the printer, specifically the section covering replacing cartridges.
Just so you know; typing ENTIRELY IN CAPITALS when communicating over the web represents and is taken as shouting.

Hp c6180 states cartridges missing or damaged

OK now this might seem bizarre, but did you go ahead and click the "Black Only" print option?

I have a C6180. Just installed all new cartridges. Tried to print and got the message that Cyan is empty. Tried all sorts of things. Then out of frustration clicked the Black Onl option. Document came out printed in color! Double checked with a picture that has lots of cyan colors. It all printed too! Go figure.

Ink cartridge cannot be used after initialization

The following are common issues.

The following ink cartridges cannot be used after device initialization and must be replaced

Cause The wrong ink cartridge(s) are installed.
Solution The indicated ink cartridge(s) cannot be used after the device has undergone first time setup. Replace the ink cartridge(s) with the appropriate ink cartridges for the HP All-in-One. To find out the reorder number for all the ink cartridges that the HP All-in-One supports, see the printed documentation that came with the HP All-in-One.
If you are using compatible cartridges make sure they are reset for use.

Hi

If the printer is out of the Box, don not try any other ink cartridges, becoz you must use the HOST ink cartridges that is shipped with the printer for the first time.It seems that it is problem with Host ink cartridge.

You can check the cartridge whether its a Host ink cartridge or normal one by looking at the serial number. If Serial number starts with C9, it Host; if it starts with C8 its normal one.

Only HP can replace it , none of the store sells Host ink cartridges, they sell the replacement ones.
You can either call HP tech support or, return the printer to staples.

Thank You
