Question about Air Conditioners

1 Answer

We have a Valor Model 466 Black Beauty OXYSAFE Fire, when you turn the sparker on the fire lights and you hold it down for a short time but as soon as you release the ignition the flame cuts out. We have held the button down for over a minute and it still goes out.

It sounds as though you have a bad thermocouple. Replacing the thermocouple which senses the heat from the flame should correct your problem. The thermocouple is a safety device which when working properly sends an electrical signal to the main gas valve that your pilot lite is on and holds the valve in the operational mode.

My Ruud achhiever 90 starts to fire but as soon as the blower fires the burner goew out. I also noticed that the "igniter" on the end isnt firing. Could that cause the burner to not stay lit when the

There is an ignitor and a flame sensor. If the ignitor does not ignite the gas after a time, it goes out. If the flame sensor does not detect ignition the gas valve closes. When you start it you should see the ignitor come on like a light bulb and glow, then the gas valve opens and you get ignition. Then the flame detector turns on when the ignitor goes out. Flame detectors are like a chrome wire that has one connection to it and it sits part of the way in a burner. They get dirty and corroded. When that happens it shuts down. You can clean the flame detector with steel wool of scotch brite pads. Dont get too carried away doing that though.

I have a Valor Eminence Gas Fire which does not ignite when i try to put it on. Pilot light seems to be going but no gas. Can anyone help? I habe dusted the interior as per instructions but to no succes....

Be sure that after lighting the Pilot, that you turn the gas control knob to ON. Just lighting the pilot will not turn the burners ON. Once the control knob is turned to ON, you can turn the burners ON.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

I have a valor dream slimline gas fire which the coals keep building up with soot and eventually blocking the pilot light, why does this happen? how can i resolve this problem?

The coals have either shifted or were installed improperly. They are causing flame impingement, which causes soot. If you have your Owners Manual consult that, for the proper placement of the coals.

Hope this helps you to solve the problem, Danny.

Valor Fireplace model 837 AN. It has a handles on upper left side that when depressed lights the burners. The burners are supposed to stay lit once the lever is released but it shuts all flame off...

Definitely, sounds like a problem with the Thermocouple or Thermopile (some of the Valor models use one or the other or both). But, before you jump the gun, be sure you hold the control valve knob in for at least one minuet before releasing it, when lighting the pilot. That way, the Thermocouple or Thermopile will have ample time to heat up.

Hope this helped you.

Initial problem was that fire was taking long time to light, no spark being generated intermittently. Now Gas fire seems to be going off on its own when it has been on for a while. Fire is the hole in the...

First, have you changed the battery in the ignition system? If you haven't this could be causing your ignition problem. In addition, the Thermocouple may need to be replaced to solve the problem of the burner flames going of on their own. That's assuming the pilot light is also going out when the burners go out. It would also be wise to check the vent pipe to make sure it's not obstructed in any way. As this also, could cause the flames to go out. Because there is a Safety Overload Switch, that automatically shuts the burner off is there is a gas and heat buildup/backup in the firebox.

As far as replacing the Thermocouple is concerned, this unit uses the same type of stand-alone Thermocouple, as the older DESA Vent-free gas log sets and fireplaces used. It's held in place with a saddle strap mounting and is fairly easy to replace.

These fireplaces are made in the UK and therefore, are more complicated to install, diagnose a problem and then solve it, than those made in the U.S.

Hope this has helped get you headed in the right direction.

It's stopping and starting(fires up for a few seconds, stops and fires up again).i cleaned the filters etc.it's a small bit better after this but still fires on and off.radiators were only at half temp.

In a furnace, opposite the sparker or hot-surface ignitor, (usually to the left) is a "flame rod" that senses the fire. Pollutants cover it with oxidation and can't "see" the fire. Gently "dress" it with steel wool or very fine sand-cloth. Dryer sheets are often the culprit!

You are half-way right, to light the pilot, light it and push down the red button and hold it for at ----least2-minutes-- till the flame heats up the pin (thermocouple- which fire-thermocouple metal makes electricity which sends it to the gas valve and says ,OK GAS VALVE,I'VE GOT A PILOT FLAME SO OPEN UP THE MAIN GAS VALVE! See where I'm going with this?
