In Laptop obviously there is only one CD/DVD rom drive present.

So first confirm have you got any mark in the device manager entry for WC6037K IYL929R SCSI CdRom Device. If yes then you need to go in the BIOS and detect the Boot priority and enable the CD Rom there.
Check out the event viewer entry if showing any red cross entry related to CD/DVD rom and try to search it out on net.

If the CD/DVD drive is opening or ejecting out then it working and if it is not may be the failure in Drive and need to replace.

Other entry you had mentioned is for RAM (memory)

Put the "System Restore" disk into the drive,
and restart your computer.
Choose to "change boot order" so that the first boot-device is your CD/DVD unit.
Your computer *WILL* boot from the disk in the drive,
allowing you to reinstall Windows.

Dear Sir,

It is not problem with your hardware,it is problem with your operating system. This happens due to invalid registry entry on the system files, you may clean the registry by using glary utiliy or any other free registry cleaning software,it may solve your problem. If it is not you have to reinstall windows operating system by formatting your system drive.

LG super multi drive identified as CDROM by Windows XP

First, thank you for the excellent description. I wish more FixYa clients would provide complete information like that.

Unless you are having problems, I wouldn't worry about the product designation in XP since it's LG drive that is identifying it as such during XP's device discovery routine. Your new LG drive can handle all of the different DVD rewritable formats - i.e. DVD-RAM, DVD+RW, and DVD-RW - so it appears that it is just using the first as its designator.

In my laptop, my LG DVD writer is designated as follows in Device Manager:

HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T10N ATA Device

LG describes it as a "Slim DVD Super-Multi Drive". I've had no problems with it, and it has worked flawlessly to burn CDs and DVDs.

Toshiba A305-6825 laptop prolem (no visible CD/DVD Rom drive). In Device Manager: HL-DT-ST dvdram gsa-t40F ATA device error. Media test failure. There appears to be CD/DVD combo drive firmware...

You seem to be onto things (though your problem classification was generic instead of for your Toshiba model A305.) Install all the updated drivers for your laptop from the laptop's support site (Toshiba's, that is) so you can use your drive. Drives fail sometimes, and you could try sticking an old movie or something in there instead of nothing, but it is likely it is just the missing driver.
