Question about Dell UltraSharp 1907FP 19" LCD Monitor
I bought a Dell 19" monitor to work beside my Dell Inspiron 6000 but there were no instructions included. Not being techcnically minded in any way I was wondering what I have to do to get it working. It has a power cable and I have also connected it to the lappy with another cable.......Can I download a users manual from somewhere? thanks
Most monitors now-a-day are pnp or upnp (Plug-n-play or Universal Pug-n-Play) So drivers are not always needed. In windows open control panel and then display then screen resolution. This will allow you to choose whether to use you laptop monitor or an external. Now here it will detect external as well as your laptop monitor. Use the pull down menu to make your selection or in the image click the second monitor. If you want you can make this your main display by checking the (Make this my main display) box. Personally with my experience this will disable your actual laptop monitor even if the external one is not connected.
Once you make your selection and click ok to all desired, I suggest going into the power options. If use like myself use and external mouse/keyboard. In power options, you want to edit any of the plans or create one. In the edit plan settings window select change advanced power settings. A window pops open "Power Options" look for "POWER BUTTON AND LID". Expand to see the options there should be 3 options : Lid close action - Power button action - Sleep button action. Select Lid close action No it asks 2 questions one for if running battery and other if plugged in. I put sleep under the battery section and do nothing in the plugged in section. So now once these options are all configured you can close the lid on your laptop and feel as if using a desktop.
Should you need the manual for you monitor, Product Support
This is for the 1908fp Don't think there is a major difference.
There are no drivers however for the monitor so It should work fine.
Not sure what version of Windows you are using but do know that in windows 8/8. if you push windows key + p you will be given 4 options for connecting a second monitor . PC only - Duplicate - Extend - Second screen only.
Hope this helps a bit.

to toggle the screen between your laptop and the dell 19" monitor. Hold down the Fn key on the laptop and tap the F8 key. The screen would move to the external display.
There are three settings that can be done by the Fn + F8 key combination
1. Both the laptop and external monitor works
2. Only the external monitor would work
3. Only the laptop screen works
