the fridge and freezer are seperate compartments they dont share air there is a chemical filled filiment on your fridge u can see it at the back looks like a big grill that chemical is pumped around both fridge and frezer that chemical carrys heat energy it removes the heat from the fridge and frezer to the radiator at the back this radiator gets verry hot whyle your fridge / frezer becomes cold it shuld be 1 compleate system with better fluid flow in the frezer to make it cool faster
ok so the frezer is working but fridge is not it could be a few things 1 fluid not geting round the fridge lack of fluid or 2 a blockage
im no expert but knowing the basic science of fridges is a help i hope this has helped but like i say im not farmiliar with any fridge and models deviate but the science stays the same hopefully this steers u in the right direction
The fresh food compartment is cooled by air being blown from the freezer compartment into the fresh food compartment. Something is restricting that air flow which causes your fresh food compartment to stay warm.
There is a panel, or door if you will, that separates the freezer and fresh food compartments. The freezer temp control determines how much cold air is allowed to escape into the fresh food compartment by opening or closing this panel.
If the panel is restricted from moving (stuck closed, for example), the freezer will get VERY cold while the fresh food compartment will be warm.
Try thoroughly defrosting the refrigerator. Possibly an accumulation of ice is preventing the panel from moving and/or is restricting air flow from the freezer to the fresh food compartment. It's a free fix and may solve your problem altogether.
If that doesn't help, or helps only temporarily, you may have a problem with panel itself or the linkage that connects it to the control mechanism. Unless you're skilled in appliance repair, checking and repairing these components will require the help of a service technician
These fridges are designed that way believe it or not. Designed to eliminate condensation on surface but in hot weather they get really hot then stay warm until compressors cooldown. I would not worry. You can also call kenmore sears and they can tell you if it is fine.
Quick temporary fix - defrost the freezer (inside frezer lower back) it is probably full of frost/ice - this prevents air flow and therefore no air enters fridge side. common failure due to bimetal defrost thermostat failure ($20) - replace part for permanent fix
I called a repair man. I was charged $150.00 . It was the box at the botom left side of the fridge, under fridge. It's fixed .It took about 5min. to replace it. I could have done it my self. Reading FixYa pointed me in the right direction. Reading postings on FixYa! What a great place to recieve info! I am not sure what the part cost, if you were to install it your self. Not a big job it has two screws that holds it in place. I had to work, was in a bind for repair man. It was worth the $150.00 to have my food back in the fridge.
It sounds like cold air from the freezer isn't making it to the fridge compartment. This can be cause by a several things. The damper that lets air into the fresh food side is stuck in "closed" position, the temp sensor (t-stat) isn't working properly, the evaporator fan (in the freezer comp above the coils) isn't working to blow air up to the fresh food section. In some situations, the defrost cycle for the freezer section isn't working and the coils have frozen into a block of ice and air can't flow over them properly so you get not cold air to the fresh food section but the freezer still stays cold due to the block of ice.
