The turn signals on my 98 ford econoline 250 work until I try the hazard lights. then neither works?
I installed a new relay. My turn signals worked. I then tried the hazard lights and they didn't work. I tried the turn signals again and they didn't work. Also, I don't have any backup lights.

Check your flasher units. Because of the load of all signals working under Emergency conditions, there are 2 flasher units. The basic flasher may be bad and that is why the Emergency flasher still works.
Also try cycling the Emergency flashers about 20 times. Some designs share contacts between the 2 units and the prongs get misplaced which the Emergencies are used.
The turn signal flasher relay may have a problem.Turn on the hazards and follow the clicking sound to the source and usually the hazard flasher and turn signal flasher are very close to each other.Remove the one that is clicking and put it in place of the turn signal flasher. If the Turn signals then work you will need to purchase a new turn signal flasher relay. They are usually just a few dollars.
The turn signal flasher relay is located on the driver's side of the steering column, under the dash, mounted in the upper left corner of the fuse panel. It has only one flasher relay for both turn signals and hazard lights.
It is not the flasher if the hazards work, it is 1 flasher for both turn signals and the hazard lamps. It is in a relay block ( along with the blower motor relay ) under the dash, about in line with the steering wheel column ).
Try tilting the steering wheel all the way up, and test again.
The other quick test is to cycle the hazard switch a few times, to see if it cleans the contacts for the turn signal on the MFS,
Ford is notorius about the hazard switch going bad in the column. I have three trucks from 95 thru 02 that have the same problem. we just don't use the hazards and the turn signals work.
