I've exactly the same proble as posted by a2z_isme on Nov 04, 2008. Screen comes on for second then switches off. How do i get the back of the LCD screen off to get to the capacitor / circuit board without distroying the casing? Any particular trick / knack? i've tried, but it's a stubborn little bugga.

If you've tested turning the monitor on without the VGA cable and it's still blinking I'd say there's a problem with one of the capacitors on the power supply card on your screen, when you're able to check it would you mind telling me the brand / reference of it ?

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL monitors to get some ideas what to look for:

Unplug the cable from your PC, if the monitor shows a test image, the monitor is fine and the problem is with your graphic card. If you dont see nothing on-screen after unpluging the cable from the PC, then the monitor in damaged. Send it to repair.

Dell 1703ft (17" UltraSharp LCD) powers on, but no picture

This is most probably cause by one or more Faulty Electrolytic Capacitors, I find these are the MOST commonest form of "Fault" in these LCD's TFT's units. I ususally simply replace "On Spec" all High Value Electros, in fact ALL Electro's are suspect and often I just "Shotgun" and replace 'em all. Usually fixes all problems. Always use High Temperature Caps. Try this and see if it helps. All too often it is these Electro's.. GL.
