Computer Speakers shut off on their own - Creative L-3800

Creative I-trigue L-3800 computer speakers (sub + 2 satellites). Occasional pop from sub. Without any warning the whole thing shuts off. Won't turn back on for a while. Must be turned on by me - doesn't come on by itself again. Sounds to me like it's overheating ( the power block gets very hot). After a while you can turn it back on again and it works fine. Any help would be appreciated. I paid about $175, does it pay to fix it?

Hi,

Overheating or something else, the unit has to be opened up for a look and see. Primary suspect would be the pigtail/voicecoil of the subwoofer, the amp IC and power supply. This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional. On most comparable systems, replacement parts cost would not be that expensive, it is however the service fess that are rather high. Based on this, you may want to reconsider your options.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi,
It is due to over heating or may be due to some short circuit within the power cord. Did you try replacing the adapter and the power cord alone. It may help. You may also try talking to a service person and aske them for an estimate for the repair of the speakers. There are various service people who do a free estimate. I can provide you with a list of service people contacts if you let me know of the zip code. Or else follow this link http://www.fixya.com/Services.aspx?prdid=471662&zip=87106 and change the area and find service people addresses by yourself.

Thanks.

Try to hard reset the system. Turn off, take power supply cable off and leave it for at lease 60 sec. Restart again....

I-trigue 3400 speakers

My 3400 worked yesterday, but today the subwoofer stopped working. I tried a lot of different things. In the end, I simply had to jiggle the wired remote connection to the subwoofer and it started working again.

No sound no nothing !

make sure :
1- the the speakers are connected to the sub woofer correctly
2- the sound driver is installed on your computer ( you can check that from Device Manager )
3- that you connected the sub woofer jack to the correct jack of your computer
4- the volume parameter is set to highest in your computer

if nothing works out then i suggest connecting the speakers to another device ( like ipod or mp3 player )

if either this won't work then the speakers are obviously corrupted :)
