Re: ERR 308

Open and check. Could be a mechanical problem - a jammed disc, or broken drive belts.

When I put a cd in the recorder drawer it keeps opening after I close it. What should I do ?

My unit has started doing the same thing about 6 months ago (the record cd tray keeps opening again after a new disc is inserted.) My unit is about 10 years old so I figured it might be because I've recorded so many CD's and it's not sensing the disc correctly. I'm stubborn, so every time this happens I press the button to reload the disc and keep doing that until it loads correctly and starts reading/initializing. Sometimes it loads after a couple of opening/closing attempts, sometimes it takes a dozen or so attempts. But eventually it loads. It's frustrating to do this but it's worth it because this is such a good unit. However, most importantly the best possible and correct type of discs must be used. The only ones that have worked consistently for me (very rarely is there a bad disc) are Sony CRM80RS. I use these exclusively now. As of April 2011 they're still available online from Amazon and Walmart, and other sites too. Sold in 30 or 50 packages and fairly inexpensive. I've just read some of the other answers on this site and realize the problem could also be connected to a dirty laser, so I'm going to try wiping the 'eye' very gently with a Q-tip. It might help.

I have a Denon UD-M5 that's 10 years old but has been working fine. I have just moved house and I think it was damaged in transit - the CD display just says ERR and I can't open any of the the drives....

Neither of the earlier responses actually understand the problem. What's much more likely is that, unlike a mechanically stuck drawer or derailed CD, you won't hear _anything_ when you fire up the unit. And, if you switch on the unit with any one of the 'load' buttons (rather than the power button) you'll get an ERR msg for that slot. Our unit was about the same age, so not surprising to see a similar failure. It's a tiny fuse on the top circuit board. The UD-M3 suffers from the same fuse blowing--theirs is labled PR003; on the M5, it's PR004. Look on the extreme right edge of the top PCB for a small orange resistor-looking micro-fuse with a '750' beside it. That stands for 750mA, which is what I went down to Radio Shack (The Source) and bought for $2, along with an inline fuse holder ($5). It's a small screw-together capsule with 4" leads on either end. Solder each end on either side of the blown component and you'll be back in business for under $10 and about an hour's effort.

CD player in 00 Volvo S70 not working

Try a "Laser Lens Cleaner" one that uses fluid, you can find them at just about any electronics retailer for 15-20. Run it thru a couple times and try your cd again. If it plays, make sure you clean it 3 or 4 times a year. It's the only preventative maintanance you can do. If it still won't play, it need service, if it's just an am/fm/cd without a changer etc. your better off replacing the unit. The repair will run from 125-175 on average. They just replace th cd transport. Hope this helps

Lifestyle 12, NO AUDIO and a DEAD DISPLAY

You are correct. The display unit is separate from the audio issue. I have tired to work on a few of these units over the years.

Bose is so proprietary in thier electronics and repair that the average electronics technician cannot service them.

Your only luck it to send the units in for service. If you are dead set on wanting the bose units then, $250 may be worth the repair charges to you.

If I was you, I would retire the Bose equipment and go to my local electronics store to purchase a different brand unit.

My rca 5 disk vertically stacked cd changer is stuck. Won't open. How to fix it?

Try this... unplug the unit and turn it upside down.  Have a small screwdriver ready.  No plug the unit in and try to turn the wheel in the large slot clockwize.  When you see the spring clip try to grab the white plastic stop and move it clockwize.  This should eventually open the door.  It did for me.

Tray error on a jvc axad8 5 disc dvd shelf unit

Don't do anything by force you'll only make more damage. Its one disc platform and its mehanism is much more complicated than normal one.It has an "elevator system inside, the optic goes up and down to take a disc and every disc is laying on moving platform which deliver the the disc to the optic, and even some servicers are afraid to get deal with it.Was any disc in the unit when you moved it???If it was then it got out from laying plate, stucked in the mechanism and blocked the whole system.Or some of the laying plates has jumped of from its seat and blocked system.I repeat its very tricky, there are a lot of moving parts which has to be fited to the wright place, otherwise something can be broken. It can be home repair only if you are real specialist otherwise go to the service
