NetGear DG834G Router

Can't acces some websites

posted by cheekymonkey on Oct 02, 2006

Hi have got a netgear DG834G router. I am on the little USB adaptor end of it and so have a slightly slower connection.
But the problem is that i can't seem to get into websites like Hotmail and eBay. When i go into eBay i choose my cataggory and then my sub catagory but it will let me go no further after that. And with Hotmail I can go to the hotmail home screen but as soon as i enter my details and press enter it stops. I have run virus scans and spyware scans. I have also cleared my internet cache but still with no result.
Many Thanks
Tom

This sounds more like a problem with your computer's operating system rather than the broadband router.

Since the purpose of the broadband router is to provide IP connectivity to the Internet, it is functioning properly if you get to the front pages of the web sites.

Now, typically the front pages of the web sites are simplistic when it comes to design and functionality. The more advanced features come in once you log on and get to when things are personalized for individual users.

Web sites offer these features through several technologies, such as Java and Flash. Perhaps one of these programs on your computer has become corrupted. Go to Add/Remove programs and try un-installing all versions of Sun Java (or just Java) and Macromedia Flash (or Adobe Flash or just Flash).

Then go to their web sites, download and install the latest versions.

Java: http://www.java.com
Flash: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplaye...

Restart your computer after installing both. You may also want to check the security settings in your web browser. If the settings are to high, they may be preventing these technologies from running and properly displaying content in your web browser.
