The main thing with cordless/battery (direct current) powered motors is that they have a static magnet instead of field windings. The main rotary part of the motor is still wound in segments but it uses dual magnets for the static outer part of the motor. These magnets have to be aligned properly for the motor to run at optimal performance. If they are too far out it won't runa t all. The magnets are also prone to cacking or breaking if subjected to heavy impacts (ie drill dropped from ladder). The other thing is the amount of time they operate at optimal performance but this is nly really affected by the battery capacity and amount of load the motor has to operate. Alternate current motors with wound field coils are alot more powerfull and abviousley have no time limit, but you would only then be able to operate your robot while it is plugged into a socket. The new lithium ion batteries are a lot longer lasting, and stay at peak performance for longer, but when they start running out they tend to just stop instead of slow down.

My dc213 18 volt sds drills is running slow am i right in thinking its the trigger thats faulty

Not totally. It could be the switch but I'd look at the motor first. Disconnect the motor and running with battery voltage. If it still runs slow it's the motor. Becareful with the switch it looks like a static sensitive switch and needs to be worked on at a static free work station. The motor part # is 492829-00 Cost $92.72 The switch is 368832-09 $ 48.91 . Those are suggested list prices may vary! Good luck!

When using my panasonic 12v ey6409 drill there are sparks and smoke coming out at the rear, should I be concerned.

the tool with the brake will throw some sparks when it creates the short to stop rotation, but the SMOKE is an indication of a burnt motor and yes you should be concerned. Do you smell a burning odor when running if so the motor will soon fail.

Battery charger getting too hot. I have a skil 14.4 drill and flashlight set with two batteries. I noticed today the battery charger is getting very hot when I plug it in to recharge a battery for this...

Chargers get hot when charging. If you are concerned about yours ... I suggest you not leave them alone while charging.

Heat is the enemy of batteries, BTW.

14.4 drills are not as capable as higher voltages. It may be time for a new drill.

you could get new batteries ... but the batteries will probably be almost the price of a new higher volt drill.

If I wre in the marker, Id be looking at the Rigid line ... batteries interchangable and the entire thing is guaranteed for life period. Check em out at the manufacturers web site.

I hope you found this information valuable.

If you did, please leave positive comments. If you did not, my name is Joe Blow and I never said that at all!

Joel, the DW9016 1 hour battery charger was recalled due to a safety issue and DeWalt would replace it with a new charger, free of charge.

You should contact the recall center to verify if your charger was part of the recalled units and contact them for fuse replacement guidance, as there are legal issues for providing repair service or adivce for recalled equipment subject to national safety recalls.

Here's the link with the recall notice and the contact information so you can call DeWalt directly and see about how best to address your product concern.

I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Drill shuts off

Yes, it's tripping on over temp. There is a thermal protection inside the motor. Try to not press so hard so the motor doesn't pull so hard. Let the drill do the work, and let it run at the set RPM. You will get more life from the battery and the drill motor.

Need procedure to replace trigger on dewalt cordless drill

I have been rebuilding drills for 10 yrs and have installs hundreds of switches. This is not an issue in a switch like this. If it was, the energy from the motor working should damage the switch more than the static from your body. I would not be concern with it.
