You can tell if it is in a defrost by listening in the freezer for a sound similar to water dripping on a hot surface. this should only be for a short time.

How to replace a defrost heater on a ge side by side

The auto defrost cycle uses 4 components. A timer, a defrost heater, a defrost termination switch and a fusible link.
Any one of those could stop your fridge from defrosting.
The best thing to do is do a diagnostic on the defrost components to work out which component is actually faulty.

Freezer icing up then stops the fan

There is a problem with the refrigerators auto defrost cycle. The defrost heater may have fallen away from the evaporator coil or the heater has burnt out. You really need to do a full diagnostic on the defrost equipment to spot the real fault

It sounds like the auto defrost cycle has stopped working.
Manually defrost the freezer.
If things work better then it is the defrost cycle which is faulty.
A technician can help you with that

HOW TO BYPASS

If the refrigerator is not icing up it could be the defrost thermostat making the defrost cycle initiate every time the defrost timer makes defrost available. I do not recommend by-passing the defrost cycle, have the switch checked and replaced if needed.

Bosch Cooler is broken

im taking it that the cooler you refer to is actually a general fridge. if its not working, it is either your th/stat which has not reset or if not, assuming your fridge is an auto defrost, look behind the freezer and locate the timer. you should see a plastic knob plus/minus in the middle of the timer. turn the knob and listen if refrigerator comes on. if not call a tech.
