Google the brand/model number with the words owner manual and if that does not work try finding the customer service toll free number for whoever made it (brand)
Enter "199703" by numeric keys of remote control when dvd player ask for parental code and press Enter to reset old code, then put new 4 digit code (like 0000) then go to set up menu and turn off parental control. Thanks.
Try the settings for "pal - ntsc - cvbs" video formats, if the tv and dvd aren't set the same, then this can cause the problem(usually with distortion to picture, depending on how it's mis-matched)
I have had the same problem and was told that it is a "board" inside. Essentially it has lost the surround sound ability and can only play things in Direct/Stereo. Mine is just over 2 years and I originally thought my kids had hit a button on the thing causing the issue...ended up paying $100 to trouble shoot it and confirm that it is internal and more expensive to fix than replace. Can't say that I will be buying a Denon again.
