You too are experiencing a design flaw of the power regulator circuit for the harddrive. If you need to get those files off, you will have to disassemble the unit and remove the harddrive. Then plug the IDE harddrive into your computer and it will recognize the harddrive. Then you could reuse the drive by reformatting to the proper OS and save $.
You can also disassemble and use a computer power supply to power the unit to get your files off. You could attmept to replace the flaw chip wih stronger type, but need to be excellent soldering SMT.

Hope this helps!

Hello

Welcome to Fixya!

Firstly we will need to establish is the hard drive spindle is actually spinning up. Can you hear it spinning up?

Does the hard drive make a clicking sound?

Let me know any feedback in regards to the above.

If you do hear a clicking noise, it is not good news.

Let me know by means of a comment.

Kind regards

My external hard drive is not responding and it also makes a certain sound. what should i do?

the strange noises might be the post beeps are post during post the very first work is done by the ram all the memory in the ram is first transferred to the hard disk and remains active until turned off.
make sure that your RAM is securely seated,
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you should see a yellow question mark?
right click to reinstall drivers
when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable just replace the cable of the hard disk everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems
hope this helps

Strange clicking sound from my book home edition 1TB. Disk is not visible in any system Mac or Windows.

Is the clicking sound continous? Did the disk fell down or did something else hit the dis? The symptoms are bad for the data you have in the disk... If the sound isn't constantly, leave the disk on the computer for a long time, it's possible to work again....

A new hard disk drive, Hitachi part

Hello there DLBurkhart.

Here's your geek-steer ...

"...is emitting strange whining sounds every now and then ... Is this strange noise a sign of an impending problem?" == EVERY strange HDD noise is ALWAYS a sign of impending failure.

Peform a "Check Disk" on it ...

chkdsk DRIVE_LETTER /X /R
  • There should be NO surface errors if it's new(er).
  • Regardless, if it's new, then immediately insist upon a replacement.
Good luck, and please do post back ...
  • to let me (and interested others) know how things worked out,
  • to provide clarification or feedback,
  • if you have ANY further questions.
Today's the best day of my life ... and NOW you're part of it!

Operating system not found, disk corrupt, strange clicking noise.

Sounds like you have a bad hard drive. Try replacing the hard drive and restoring the operating system.

Bad picture

Try changeing the image quality, is this a cheap around 30usd model?
Comment by Ekse, posted on Jun 12, 2008 Still image: 640 x 480 (high-resolution setting), or 320 x 240 (low-resolution); movie clips: 320 x 240

the thing is this a very cheap camera and the quality doesn't get any better than that. Comment by Ekse, posted on Jun 12, 2008 I can find this camera for even 20 dollars, you have a cheap knock off. You can't get a quality camera for this cheap. Comment by Ekse, posted on Jun 12, 2008 but if you change the setting to high resolution 640x480 which by the way still is very bad. it should look a little better.
