Amp wont turn on

This is my problem. I dont get power to the LED unless i ground the AMP itself not in terminal.. When i do this the LED comes on but then both fuses blow.. I took it apart and nothing wrong on the inside what so ever. Also when i hook RCA's i get power but dimly lit. Im running a stock CD player with a crossover which needs ground, power, and remote. Any ideas on how to fix???

Disconnect all speaker connections and rca cables. Leave power, ground and remote wires intact. Try turning on again. If you still have a protection light your amp is faulty. Hopefully you have warranty. Purchse a volt meter. These are more useful than a test light. .A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you.

Your friend has damaged his amp. The power light coming on means that the amp's power indicator LED is at least working. That light is only there to tell you that the amp is receiving power on it's 12 volt rails, not that it's necessarily using the power in any way other than warming up the amp's internal circuitry. When you say the amp gets power, I'm not clear on whether you mean the amp works in that fashion, or there's just a red LED glowing but nothing else happens. The amp needs to be repaired, and I would suggest to him to not apply power to it again until it is checked by a professional. The power supply has probably been damaged, and it's possible, depending on how the amp was mounted, that it was searching for ground through the amp's chassis if it was screwed into metal at its mounting location. All that seems certain as of now is that the LED works, but nothing else, unfortunately.

Wont power up

Providing you also ran a ground direct from battery, you need a trigger wire from stereo i usually run off power antenna wire. Some stereos have a seperate amp or trigger wire already coming out you just need to run it to amp.

Power led flashes and amp doesnt work at all

Hello hexi_86, The amp is going into protection mode. If it goes into protection immediately upon power up, either the amp itself is defective or it is getting too high or too low of a voltage or current, or the outputs are shorted. 1) Make sure that the battery voltage, as measured at the amplifier?s +12 volt and ground terminals, is 11 volts or more (your alternator voltage is typically about 13.8 volts). So if you have 11 or less at the amp terminals, your wiring is too small or defective. 2) Check all +12 volt and ground connections. 3) The use of loudspeaker impedances below the recommended minimums will cause the amp to draw excessive current. Check by removing the speaker wires one at a time to locate a shorted wire or defective speaker. 4) Check all speaker connections. 5) Remove RCA inputs and see if the amp powers up properly. A shorted or grounded RCA cable can cause the amp to go into protection. If all these check out, the amp itself is probably shorted internally, most likely the output MOSFET's. In this case it needs professional repair or replacement. Hope this helps.

Amp not turning on

With your multimeter set to DC volts, the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp (not on the point where the ground wire connected to the vehicle) and the head unit on (so the amp will have remote voltage applied), touch the red lead alternately to the B+ and remote terminals of the amp. If the voltage is below ~11 volts, you need to check the wiring feeding whichever line is too low.

If neither is too low, the power supply in the amp is probably blown.

Have you checked the on-board fuses?

Did you confirm (with a multimeter) that you have voltage on the B+ and remote terminals of the amplifier?

Did you have the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp when you checked the voltage?

Unless a fuse is blown, there's a problem with the wiring or you have a defective component, there's no reason the amp shouldn't come on. You need to confirn that you have the proper voltage at the amp.

Protection Mode? amp wont start

With your multimeter set to DC volts and the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp, touch the red lead alternately to the B+ and remote terminals as the amp shuts down. If the voltage drops below ~11 volts, you need to check the wiring feeding whichever line is dropping too low.

If the voltage remains near or above 12v, disconnect all speaker wires and signal cables from the amp. If it powers up, the wiring needs to be checked. If it still shuts down, the amp likely has blown output transistors.

LED turns on, but power light doesnt and there is no sound coming out of it.

it sounds to me like you have a bad ground or a short in the ground wire. try checking the ground cable as well as theremote wire (blue), and make sure the ground is connected to an unpainted, clean surface such as the frame of your car.

Amp Trouble

Actually, it's more likely that the problem is on the outside of the amplifier than the inside. Your problem may be caused by a ground wire that's come loose from the grounding point, a defective fuse or corroded connection on the power wire, an overload of the remote input wire, or a problem with the head unit that your amp is connected to. The easiest way to troubleshoot is with a voltmeter. Test the voltage at the amplifier's main power terminal and remote terminal while the meter's black probe is connected to the ground terminal. If you find voltage dropping on one of the terminals, you can focus your attention on that wire.
