Question about PC Desktops

2 Answers

I just bought a Loigitech Premium 4-port hub but it does not work on my computer. I have a Dell Inspiron 510m laptop of about 2002/03 vintage. when I first plugged it in I got the message (something like) 'New hardware found', then 'Generic Hub' and then 'Hardware Installed'. But when I plugged stuff into the hub it did not come up on My Computer. The hub did not show. When I disconnected the hub my USB ports would not work and I had to restart to get them working again. When I connected again I did not get any messages but neither would the hub show up and the ports were disabled. I tried the hub on a different computer (a desktop) and it seemed to work OK. Any suggestions about how to fix it?

I plugged it in again and it is working OK. I plug devices into it and they work. Thanks. I don't know what was happening before.

Thank you Master JC. If I have another problem with it I'll try updating the driver.

First go ahead and plug the hub back in and see if the ports are working. If they are not. I would try to go into control panel and then goto system and then hardware and then Device Manager. Scoll down to the USB Connection Field. See if they are any explanation points in yellow over any of the devices in the usb connection fields. If there are, Then its a driver issue. I would right click on them and click uninstall... Once doing so you can right click on any field and then click on scan for hardware changes. This will make the computer re scan for the USB Device Hub that you just purchased.

Note: Currently there doesnt seem to be any drivers availible for this device for Windows Vista.

Hope this helps

How to hook up keyboard to my dell Inspiron 530

Keyboard come with two different connection options these days. The old PS2-style (circular with ~5 pins) port are less common on current machines these days. The Dell Inspiron 530 is one of them; you need a USB keyboard or a PS2 to USB adapter. This adapter, http://www.amazon.com/Adesso-Adapter-connects-connectors-ADP-PU21/dp/B00008ZPED , is an example of how you would connect your old keyboard to your new computer. There are USB ports on the front and back of the tower.

If you bought the computer new, it should have come with a USB keyboard.

I hope this helps.

My computer tells me that if my wireless adaptor was plugged into a different USB root hub it would work faster. How is this done?

Try plugging the wireless adapter into one of the usb slots on the back of the computer. If it still shows that message, I wouldn't worry. The difference in speed is negligible at best. hope this helps

Trying to start computer up and I get a diskette drive 0 seek failure message SATO 0 ST3160815as 4.ada SATO 1 HL-DT-ST DVD+/RW GSA-HT3H B103 SATO 2 NONE SATO 3 NONE

Go into the bios of your Dell and ensure that the Sata HDD 0 is being seen by the bios and that it has not been switched with the DVD. Make sure that the sata cables on the main board are plugged in correctly the hard drive should be in sata port 0 and on some dells it's sata port 1. Make sure in the bios that the Sata HDD 0 is enabled.

Hope this helps.

I have an inspiron laptop. the two USB on the side stopped working all of a sudden however when I checked the computer stated that they are working fine

may i know what device was connected to those ports?try connecting a mouse to the same ports and see whether it is detected. If it works well and fine.Other wise goto Control panel>>System>>Device manager>>Universal Serial Bus Controllers>>Here, delete all the USB Root hubs.If you are removing them using a mouse connected, then u might lose the mouse response after u delete the USB Root hubs. Please note this.Restart the system after deleting all the Root hubs and wait for a few seconds for them to get installed back.Restart again and confirm whether the issue is resolved

I have bought a 4 port triangular hub for my laptop which a has a windows xp operating system but when i plug it in the computer won't recognise it. I tried to install by "adding new harware" but...

Try other ports in your laptop aside from the one you tried to plug into. Some USB plugs do not plug well into the USB port. It may be a factory defect. If it is still under warranty, you may have it replaced. Make sure you bring your laptop with you when you do this to make sure the new USB hub works.
