Question about Maytag Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Maytag Neptune washer (model MAH5500BWW) that won't completely drain. It goes through the normal cycles but, but water still remains in the tub. Could the pump be out and how can you tell if it is?

Check the pump out flow of the drain hose, is it a good strong flow or does it seem weak and restricted. If the drain is slow the machine will stop before it is empty. Also if the drain hose is not vented, mounted too high in the air, or has a piece added on making it longer, it may degrade performance.

Yes and no. The neptunes have always had a bad problem with that. As long as the clothes aren't soaking wet after the spin cycle you should be fine.

the noise you're describing is normal - there is water in a sealed balance ring on the inner tub. To get rid of the mildew and smell, leave door open after cycle and use something like Affresh or "Smelly washer" stuff monthly or more often.

Maytag MAH5500BWW keeps increasing time during the spin cycle. Also, is it normal for the washer to have water in it after the cycle has completed? The water is not visible but when you turn the tumbler...

Ok First lets start with the water in your washer. This can be a couple of things. It can be a clog in the drain line, or it could be the water pump, going bad. Sometimes an article of clothing like a sock or cloth gets in between the inner, and outer tub and it can even work it's way down to the drain, and into the pump. If this is the case. you will have to remove the drain hose and get the item out of the drain, or pump. if you do not see a clog, and if it is the pump, you will have to replace that.
Now with the extended time in the spin cycle, that is probably the timer itself. You can get all these repair parts through Maytag, you will have to take the cabinet apart, and it is a pain if you aren't use to it. But if you want to DIY you certainly can, just be careful, and make sure everything is unplugged first.

Maytag neptune mah5500bww leaking water

Here is the solution I found that worked for me, there is a small drain hole at the bottom of the boot that is connected to a drain hose. Remove the hose and clean out to make sure that it has not become plagged. replace hose and reattach boot. Mine stoped leaking imediately.
