Random shutdowns

It is either running hot or you have a virus or infection.

Sounds like it might be running hot. If it is running hot it shuts off to keep from damaging the motherboard.

If it is running hot it will boot up to windows and let you do things as long as it is cool, but when it gets hot it will shut off and not boot up again until it cools off. That's a sign that it is running hot.

Three things that will cause it to run hot.
1) Dust. Dust in the vents, inside the computer, clogging the fans and dust around the cpu and heatsink.
2) A fan that has stopped working.
3) The Thermal Paste around the CPU and Heatsink has dried up or is too thin to keep the unit cool.

To fix either of the three would require taking the laptop apart. However you could buy a can of compressed air and blow out the vents, but this just pushes the dust inside the computer, but it might work.

If it is not running hot then you have a virus or infection that is shutting it down. Download and install MalwareBytes and run a Quick Scan.
Go to www.google.com and in the search box type:"Download cnet Malwarebytes" (without the quotes). Download andinstall malwarebytes from the sites download.cnet/malwarebytes. When the site opens up click on the Green Download button on the left. Do not click the Red Download button, that's junk. When it finishes installing the Gui Interface will open up with an offer to Accept a Trial Version or Decline. CLICK DECLINE you want the totally free version. Run a QUICK SCAN. As it scans, if it finds infections the number will be in red. When it finishes scanning, click SHOW RESULTS. A notepad text document will open up showing you the results. You can close the text document and go back to the Gui Interface where you will click REMOVE SELECTED RESULTS. The objects will already be selected for you. When it finishes removing the objects click ok and it will sometimes reboot your machine.

Playing games it gets very hot and turns off. only had 3 days

It is important to remember that laptops draw in air from the bottom of the unit. So if you place the laptop on your bed or a nice fluffy pillow on your lap to keep your legs from getting hot, then it can't draw in air and it will over heat. The second thing to remember is that, while they are good laptops, Acers are generally not the best for gaming and the internal graphics card may be getting over worked.

According to geek squad- motherboard problem on hp pavillion a220

If you've been told the motherboard needs replacing it could be true, especially in older laptops. Thinks get hot, brittle, and then a circuit gets broken. I recently had new motherboards installed in two Dell Inspiron 8200 computers. I found the boards on ebay for $70 ea. and had a local shop install them for another $70 ea.

Keep in mind Ram and video cards are common failures too.

There are quite a few diagnostic utilites out there to check for yourself before replacing the motherboards. If you want to spend the time look for ones from your computers manufacturer.
Let me know if this helps you

Computer Shuts Down By Itself

It sounds like the heads that read your hard drive are deteriorating. If you have data that you need on the hard drive hook it up as a slave drive to another computer and save your data now. Because eventually you will no longer be able to access any data on the drive. Then you will have to send it to one of those data recovery places that use clean rooms to recover your data. That will be very expensive.

Or you might have a bad sector in bios. In that case, I am not sure what to do.

My acer laptop keeps turning off

Greetings!
If your laptop keeps turning off with an interval of time, the power supply at the bottom of your laptop is hot it needs ventilation, or the fan is not working. Have it repair or replace.
Thanks.

My packard bell easynote laptop gets quite hot, when the fan kicks in it's blowing hot, and i cannot leave it on my lap for too long, when the fan stops the laptop still feels hot, are there any settings...

if you have the skills to do it you'll need to access the fan(s) and clean out all the dust and dirt that has collected in them. I acquired a compal notebook that kept shutting down because of heat. visually it looked fine in the fan area. it wasn't till i removed the fan covers that i found about a half inch of dust and cat hair next to the heat sink... once that was removed it barely heats up.
I have noticed that some laptop fans don't come on till close to meltdown. My dell laptop was like that. sometimes the only solution is to get a laptop cooler pad to sit the laptop on.

The internet is working on my desktop and i ahve a belkin iinet white box for our wireless but having trouble getting a connection for my laptop.. any quick options on getting it fixed.?

Hi,

Have you tried static IP address on the laptop?

Additionally, pls try with the WEP, WPA or MAC Filter off/disabled on your router.

Alternately, on the laptop, pls try configuring the Wireless LAN Properties Advanced tab to use "ANY" or your SSID.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information on hot to set static IP adds..

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Help !!!!my laptop shuts down

We had some Acers do the exact same thing and we fixed them. I believe it shuts right off as a safety. Usually when the processor gets too hot it powers right off to save the laptop from burning up. First quick fix it to blow out the vents and especially blow out the heat sink vent. Also could be that the heat paste that sits between the CPU and Heat Sink could have dried up and stopped doing it's job to remove heat efficiently from the CPU. Big problem in earlier model Gateway laptops too. This can be fixed by acquiring some paste from a local tech shop and reapplying it. If you feel unsure about it, take it to a tech shop and they can do it quick for cheap if not for free. Keep me posted - Scotty
