Try tapping the F8 or F10 button (i usually tap both alternately) to get to the safe mode screen. once you are in safe mode use the start menu to find system recovery.

Start>programs>Accessories>System tools>system restore

Sub out the ram memory one at a time, one bad memory stick will cause this problem.

I just opened my laptop to use it and it is froze up on me and will not shut off

to shut down press and hold the start button until the machine shuts down, can take up to 10 seconds for the machine to shut down. If this does not work remove the power lead and drop the battery out of the system. You access the battery from underneath - there will be a slider you need to push to eject the battery.

My laptop is frozen in the shutting down mode

Hi,

This can be quite common and all you need to do is perform a forced shut down by pressing and holding down the on/off button until the laptop shuts off.

If it continues to hang on shut down then there is a possiblity that the registry is corrupt and needs to be cleaned with a 3rd party application like CCleaner for example.

Laptop wont boot and the battery and power lights flash

a simple power cycle might work. Take out the battery but keep the ac power connected. hold the poewr button down for 1 minute. then hit the power button again and it should poewr back up. If this doesn' t work. iyou said hte battery light flashes so the problem isnt the battery..the problem might be hte ac power adapter..if you have a warranty this would be a good time to call them. Try the power cycle first though this fixes the problems lots of the time

I cannot turn on my Gateway m-6309 notebook. When i try to press the power button all I see is blinking light on power button and wi-fi for 1 minute and then it stops. I had a familiar problem 6 month...

have a few things for you to try. First take the battery out of the laptop and keep the power adapter connected, next press the poewr button down for about 1 minute. Then press the poewr button normally. should correct the problem. If the doesn't work then try external monitor to see if it works on another connection. If it works then your laptop has a hard ware problem causing the problem. If you have a warranty now would bea good time to call them if the steps don't work

hard drive is a main failure concern, check to ensure power supply is plugged in. sounds like you have a corrupted rgistry file-locate OS for that unit and hit ''repair'', should solve the problem.

Toshiba Satellite: A135-S4427 / Won't shut down

Hi,
by pressing the power button in, the computer has gone into standby or hibernate mode.
Heres what you Do:- press and hold the power button for between 10 to 20 seconds.
that should bring it out of hibernation.
if that does,nt work. remove the main battery.
when you,ve resolved the problem, run a disk-scan via your windows operating system.
