    Hi Douglessd,

That was the end of a very long saga, had a lot of trouble even getting it to load windows, tried a variation of memory, bios updates, bios reversion to older versions, I have one board that doesn't even get that far, you can open the bios, do your thing, exit, commence to load windows (formatt etc) ... guess what.......blue screen. (Yes I finished up buying another, but that one I at least was able to load windows, but that was all. After the initial loading, it was all over) I'm thinking about binning them, but I thought perhaps I would give them one last try.

    Cheers,

    Phl

Will it boot in safe mode?
It is probably a corrupted system file but that is just a guess, you have not given us much to go on.

One thing I would try is to take out all non esential bits. Remove any cards, leave only one memory chip in, Then swap bits to see if the problem goes away. I know this is time consuming and it sounds like you have done some of this already.

You have two mother boards with a similar problem?

Are you using any common bits while trying to get them working?

The bin might be the way to go but I guess you have to convince yourself that they are stuffed.

How do I fix

I see you chose Safe Mode.

Blue Screen Of Death

  • Unplug PC. Opening case. Remove all RAM. Use static precautions! Insert one DIMM and test. Does it load OK? Test one DIMM at time. One slot at a time. To eliminate possible bad RAM.
  • Re-install Windows. Clean install works best. All data will be lost.
  • Lastly you may have other hardware problems. If it does another blue screen after reloading windows, especially with a clean install.

Problem on Dell OptiPlex 780 Desktop

You are going to need to start your computer in safe mode and find the XP drivers that will work for your motherboard manually from the web (Assuming that there are any created for XP for that board)..

That blue screen you keep getting is because you don't have the correct driver loaded for something on the motherboard that it needs to boot correctly and your XP install couldn't find it on the web to install automatically.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking".

Now start looking for your drivers here:

Blue screen on start up bios not loading on startup dell desktop windows xp

You might have experienced the blue screen of death, as they may term it. This could be caused by corrupted system files on Windows that the computer needs in order to bootup. In such cases, try to reboot and press F5 or F8 continuously until it gets you to a selection where you can choose Safe Mode or Last known Good Configuration". You can choose either of the two until it boots back to normal. If this does not solve the issue, you may need to do a Windows Repair, on which you need the Windows Installation CD and boot from there.

Please let me know if you needed further assistance.

I bought lenovo G550 last week. It came with Windows Vista. I want to install Windows XP on it. I have found that lenovo has driver for windows XP so that will make my life easy :-) But when I try to...

you are most likely getting a BSOD with a stop error code of 0x0000007B which is caused by the Windows XP CD that you are using doesn't have the SATA Hard Drive controller driver needed to recognize and utilize the hard drive. If Lenovo has XP drivers for this model then they should have a SATA driver (roughly 394k) that will need to be loaded FROM A FLOPPY DISKETTE during the boot to XP. (XP Requires the driver to either be slipstreamed into the CD or loaded from a floppy diskette. Trying to load the controller driver USB or a different CD will not work)

I have a dell dimension e520 and I just bought a wd 320 gb sata hdd. When I want to install xp it stops before the welcome to setup screen and it gives me a blue screen help please

The blue screen you are seeing is probably not the regular BSOD (blue screen of death)

Wat you need is the DOS SATA drivers for your adaptor on floppy or some other suitable form (USB formatted as a floppy)

I think you may have missed it but as the XP CD is booting at the bottom of the screen was a message that said "press F6 to install additional storage drivers"

You should have hit F6

In a little while it will then ask you for those drivers and you just point it at the floppy or other device set to act as a floppy.

Now it will load them and let you continue setup.

otherwise it will quite often fail as it may no know how to find the SATA drive.

Hellou i don' know is it a motherboard or drivers but it crushes down every now and then and blue screen appears. i have to start it up manually, it doesn't restart automatically. it's 3 years in use....

Windows Blue screens are almost always Due to bad drivers If you provide the File name that is usually stated in the blue screen i can provide more information.

If you have just installed new hardware be sure to install the Drivers that came with the hard ware on the manufacturers CD.

Reinstalling drivers might clear up the Blue screens

How to format acer desktops

Use the windows cd, during the setup you can format the hard drive(s) and after format you need to install windows, so that works just fine. you can also format in windows but you can't format the C drive since windows is in there, you can format other drives by right clicking on them in my computer and select format.

you have either of two problems or both one is chip set drivers could be bad or the hard drive failed or windows failed do you have a start up disk if so use it to load the computer if it wont load use another computer and download the chip set drivers and install them if that dont repair it try your restore if not that hard drive has failed. just keep in mind these are the most common problems that cause the blue screen sometimes motherboards or CPU's go bad. i have a tester the tells me what wrong in my shop.

Black screen comes up "windows did not start successfully...." choose from safe mode, safe mode with networking etc Last known Configuration or Start Windows Normally. Computer then tries to...

You should opt Safe Mode:
  • On the black screen just navigate throug up and down arrow keys.
  • Goto Safe Mode and press enter.
  • It will boot your system in safe mode.
If the boot is success full:
  • try to remember any software or hardware you recently installed/change. Then remove/uninstall that software/hardware. Also remove some device driver like Video/Audio driver and make re-start. and try to normal boot. If success then install your audio/video.
If no success then I think its time to re-install your windows.
Please post your feed-back.
