Sending attachments in Outlook 2003

Were you then saying that you have a word document open, and that you are trying to send as an e-mail? Or were you opening a document from an e-mail, and trying to re-send it(This is what I was assuming). When sending a document as an e-mail you should have 2 options, one is to send as an attachment, what happens when you send as an attachment? As always, apply all Service packs and updates to you office program. Also if you wish to reply, leaving the version, and SP info of your Office package will be helpful in troubleshooting. I use Office 2003 SP2. What version are you using? If you don't know, the easiest way is to click Help, then About MS Office. This will give you the version info.
