Question about Toshiba DR4 DVD Recorder

3 Answers

Error Message I own a Toshiba DVD recorder, model number d-r4su. I tried to record on a dvd-rw disc that is supposed to be compatible with the player. I now have "ERR-14" flashing on the indicator window. It won't stop. Nothing I do will make it stop. I can't find my manual. Unplugging it and then plugging it back in does no good. Please help!

The manual says to press the display button (just below the eject button) on the remote. This worked for me.

This gets rid of the error (pressing Display button), but in order to avoid failure in the future you have to switch to 4X or 8X DVD-R.
"Toshiba recommends the 4 – 8 X, DVD-R or DVD-RW by Maxell, Fuji, Verbatim, and Kodak."

Recording Error, Can not record on this disc, E 4 54040990 Just trying to record from TV on a Memorex DVD+RW. Keep getting this error. Any ideas?

Recently started getting the same error message. I thought it was because I was getting to close to full or something that was trying to over fill the discs. Have tried EP and LP and this just started when I had a disc set to record to the end. I can't even open that one or finalize it. The rest do the same. They are working fine and when the error comes up, ZAP the disc is dead, no access.

I also tried putting the same disc into another Magnavox DVD recorder, still no access. These are both the most reliable recorders I've ever owned and I've had a number.

magnavox error message dvd "e 6 2a031000 can not record on this disc."

I suspect at this point, a batch of cheap Nexxtech DVDs. Also it's possible that it's a heat problem with the recorder? Once the disc goes into error mode, it's unreadable and all recordings that haven't been written to the TOC become invisible, but that time is forever lost on the DVD.

DVD is visibly (looking at recording surface) FULL but the supposed record time isn't used up. Data error. Discs reporting wrong size. Try a different brand of DVD.

Says blank DVD-RW is not formatted, then formats -- then error

I have same TOSHIBA D-VR4XSU VCR/DVD RECORDER. According to the
manual, you (COULD) can use for recording: DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R (see page 50). WRONG!!! I bought all 3 types of discs, but after few
weeks I got same experience you got now. Just type DVD-R works. The other
types were - wasted money and a lot of time trying to finalize the disc. I had to
throw all into the garbage. Try DVD-R and you should?? be O.K.

Disc error

I have this same problem so I called Sharp.  This model is  a little older.  When you buy the disks there is a number with an X after it.  If you buy the - R disk the number has to be 4X or less,  for the -RW it has to 2X or less.  Apparently they can still be bought at Office Depot or online.
