Memory Card In - Screen Goes Black & Camera Power Lost

My daughter bought this a few months ago. Today, when the memory card is in, the screen goes black & the power to the camera is frozen. It will not close and none of the function buttons work. Without the card, the power goes on, and all is well. This card has been in there for months, and all of a sudden this problem. She did not take the card in and out. Just discovered the card made a difference when trying to figure out this problem. Please advise. She mowed a lot of lawns to earn the money for this camera. Thank you. dsharp

The card probably needs formatting. Or get the card check at your photo store in case it is faulty.

Remove the batteries. Remove the memory card.
Install batteries only, paying close attention to inserting correctly. (Possible one was put in wrong.)

Yes - Power off. Insert memory card. Power on. Does it work? Memory card may be defective. Try formatting it.

The card may have become corrupted. Use a separate card reader and download any pictures from the card. Then, insert it into the camera, go into the menu and find "format"...follow the on-screen instructions.

Can no longer copy from internal to memory card. Keeps saying "Memory card requires formatting." When I choose "continue" the camera tries formatting then goes back to the original screen saying "Memory...

In the manual, page 21 & 21 describe how to use the camera to format your choice of either the memory card OR the internal memory. If you format the internal memory, images stored there will be lost.

Once you format in the camera, you should be able to use the card if it is no larger than 2GB. It appears the camera does not support cards greater than 2GB.

NEW Canon EOS 450D display not working

The memory card must be in it. If you take a picture without the card in it, it will show for a few seconds then go black. There must be a memory card in order to save the pictures.

"format error" message

Reinsert memory card in camera and try to format it. If that does not help then check with new memory card as old memory card could be defective.

Camera power problems?

It's not the battery. It turned out to be a memory card problem.

I took out my old memory card and put in a new one. It started working properly after that.

I just bought my Canon Power Shot A560 today, but almost immedantly i put the memory card in a message came on the camera screen to say the memory card was full. Why is this happening?

sounds strange-you sure there is nothing on card?-format the memory card from menu and that will clear card-is this card that came with camera or card you bought with it-i'd use a 2 gb sandisk or pny and you should have no problems
