Hi, Hope this helps. 1st, take the screen off by putting a sharp edged tool like a knife in the slight gap and pull off gently. 2nd, with rim off, you will see 4 holes around the screen with 4 torx screws size ""6"" take the 4 screws out, be gentle not to round them off you can then pull the screen off by just lifting separating it fro the dome back . 3rd with screen face down you will see the speaker held by two screws take these out then lift the speaker gently to the side.. 4th this is the tricky bit, gently pull the silver casing and foil gently not off - but temporarily sort of hanging, 5th with the screen still face down turn it gently so the the part where the reser hole and dock connection faces you, if you have taken the foil off you will see two holes one at each end at the very bottom take the right hand screw out and pull casing to you so you can pull battery out of holder and unplug the very small plug and you can put new battery in.. lastly gently wrap the casing and foil back to its position.. then the rest speaker - dome back - and screen rim.. just to add its like a bake bean tin casing really shodily made not worth half the price.. hope this helps its easy enough. lastly was your green light on but no power up possible as mine was, i changed battery and it is still the same with new battery.. Rob let me know what happens

Install replacement battery in Garmin Nüvi 660 and 670. How is cabinet opened?

The Garmin 660 and 670 like most Garmin satnavs cannnot be opened unfortunately. Garmin say that the battery may be replaced by sending the unit back to them only.

Displayed low battery msg then shut off and won't work even with charger

Most likely the battery has died - not just as in out of charge, but has lost the ability to hold a charge at all. This happens to rechargable batteries, and the thing to do is to replace the battery with a new one.

Unfortunately the XNAV3550 has an "integrated" battery, meaning you'd have to open the case (and void your warrenty) to replace it yourself. If the unit is still under warranty, contact Dual for a replacement. If the warranty has expired, then you might (if you're comfortable doing so) open the unit and see if the battery is easily replaceable. Otherwise I'm afraid you're out of luck. :-(

Just bought a garmin 660fm on ebay it seems to work ok for around 20-30 minutes and then switches off, when i turn the unit back on it shows only one bar on the battery indicator and swithes off shortly...

It is the battery and since it is not under warranty you may as well open it up and replace the battery yourself. 1500 mAh, Lithium Polymer and it will unplug from inside the unit. $8.88 at the following url:

Gps dosen't hold a charge. ac power charge, or mobil charge

Ahh, the notorious battery problem. I had (2) units that would not charge or turn on (red light just kept flashing). I opened the unit and disconnected the battery on (1) and completely removed the leaking battery on the other since I could not find replacements batteries. The units work fine now when plugged in (AC or DC adapter of course !). Still looking for a replacement battery...

Internal battery dead,how to replace

The GPS 12 has an internal battery soldered to the board inside the unit.
I have replaced about a dozen of these over the years,
The problem is caused when the unit is stored for a long time without batteries.
The internal battery is not a rechargable.
You have to use a screwdriver in the crack that joins the 2 parts of the case and break the seal to split the case open.
This will of corse render the waterproofness of the unit void.
You then have to unsolder the internal battery from the board and find a replacement.
It is a tagged lithum battery, I can't remember the model at the moment.
Inside you will also notice the surface mount Intel 386 Chip. which is the main processer.
This has nothing to do with the battery but I found it interesting that a chip in a computer from the mid 80s worth over $3000 then, still has a use.

When you have soldered the new battery into place you need to either glue or tape the unit back together. Be careful not to damage the other parts around the battery.

Always keep charged batteries in the unit when not in use.

Hope this helps.

Forerunner 305 battery replacement

Automotive silicon/gasket maker.

Use a tooth pick to put a VERY small amount of silicon around the entire seam. Put the two half's together and wrap tightly with electrical tape. Test the unit immediately to see if it powers on and off. If it does not open it back up and raise the small prongs that make the connection from the bottom half to the top half.
If any silicon squishes out the sides wipe with water and a rag.
Let the unit sit over night. In the morning remove the tape.
