Question about Brother DCP 115C All-In-One InkJet Printer
I was told by Brother that 'Cannot Clean' (fault 460) means that the absoption pads needs to be replaced. Their sponsored engineer estimated a cost of about £80 to replace the pads although the 14 months old machine only cost £40 new and was used about 12 times. I have now acquired new absorption pads for the Brother DCP-115C printer. How can I access the old ones on the machine and reset the purge counter? Thanks R. Forde firstname.lastname@example.org
Pull out the AC plug
- put back the AC plug while holding down the menu button and keep holding it (15 sec)
- now you are entering the MAINTENANCE mode and error 46 pops up in the display
- select 8 by using the arrow buttons ,push OK and select 0 and push OK
- 00:00 00:01 OK (the display is showing this message)
- now push the MONO button 25 times until you see PURGE: xxxxx
- Select 2, push ok, select 7,push ok,select 8,push ok, select 3,push ok
- the purge counter indicates now: purge: 00000
- switch off the printer ,switch it on
- ready to print
The only remark is that your waste ink box is too full with ink. Ink flooding might be happening
machine error 46 means that your printer's purge unit has reached its counter limit and needs replacing, the reason i say this is because your machine has done alot of work and parts will be warn in your m/c, if you just reset the counter you will end up with ink througout your machine, normally when your printer is up for a purge unit its better to get a new machine with new cartridges and a 12 month warranty and no wear. u can get the new brother for about $79 wich is by fare a way better way to go. and with the new brother the inks are alot cheaper than earlier models wich is a bonus.
you the reset procedure for the m/c and pruge but just doing a reset will not cure this problem you need to replace purge unit and do a counter reset on your purge unit, (used to clean the printhead) thats why it says unable to clean,

To my knowledge, the waste ink absorption pad would be directly underneath the ink cartridge holder/print head assembly when at rest (parked). The carriage would have to be moved away from the rest/parked position to gain access. You would need preferably a pair of tweezers to lift out the old pad and replace with new.
As to the "reset the purge counter", pls try:
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

If you used the machine only 12 times it is impossible that you have a 'Cannot Clean' (fault 46, not 460) because the absorption pads needs to be replaced.
The absorption pads needs to be replaced after the machine has done at least 2000 copies or more, depending on the usage.
This problem is not even related to a printer counter in need to reset, this if the fact that the machine had been used 12 times is true.
Try unplugging the machine first.
If this does not reset, do the following:
Enter in service mode, by unplugging power cord, then holding down Menu/Set key, while you plug back the power cord at the same time (be careful doing this)
The diagmnostic mode will display an error code, if it does not , then the machine is OK.
If there is still the error code:
Use the down key until you get Purge Counter on the menu.
Press the combination of keys 2, 7, 8, 3. This will reset the purge count.
Press the Stop or Exit key to return to maintenance mode main menu.
Now press twice key number 9 to return the printer to the original mode.
If the printer is stuck in standby then unplug main power again.
If this cannot fix the problem there is an internal fault that is probably not related with waste ink tank and absorption pads.
Normally the reset should purge the print counter, and get rid of the problem.
