Question about HP OfficeJet G85 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

HP G85 is stuck on "Initializing"

I have had this printer for a couple of years with zero problems. All of a sudden it won't do anything. It is stuck on "Initializing". We have rebooted. We have unplugged it from the computer and the power, moved it to another room, plugged it into the wall outlet only and it does the same thing - it is stuck on "initializing". We can't even shut it off, it turns back on and runs on "initializing". We were told that it could possibly be the cord going from the printer to the computer but that makes no sence to me when it won't even work as a copier being just plugged into the electrical outlet and not plugged into the computer.

I ended up buying a new printer/fax/copier/scanner Lexmark last night through Home Shopping Network for $130.00 and free shipping. I just could not pass that up figuring it would cost at least half that to repair the G85. A shame though because it is hard to just toss out a printer that has been so great. I thank you very much for your reply.

Sounds like your main board has gone out on this unit. We can sell you a replacment board for $45 if interested. Its not too terribly hard to install.

My office jet G85 won't print. No error messages appear,it has a new color cartridge,it copies, but won't print from my computer.

If it copies ok, then the issue is either the way it is cabled to computer or the print driver software settings on pc.... How is it connected via USB? Check port and correct driver is in windows/control panel/printers. Reinstall.

My hp g85 will not take paper from the "top load".

I don't know about why it is not acknowledging that you have placed anything up there to be copied, but when mine would not pull paper, I cleaned the rollers with Q-Tips and water or rubbing alcohol. It would then pull the paper through. I do this when it won't pull from the lower paper tray too. Hope it helps!

My G85 functions for almost 10 years without much of a problem. Now, when printing, the printer head now and then damages the upper side of the paper. Sometimes it gets stuck. Who knows a solution?

The problem is most likely just wear. You most likely need a new print head and/or carrier. Unfortunately, HP generally will only sell you a over priced refurbished printer not the parts nor will they repair it. Generally it's cheaper to check the close outs at the office and electronics stores than to fix the old one.

Stuck on a initializing massg on the window

Hello,

There are multiple steps to resolve this issue along with detailed graphics. Unfortunately, we cannot send graphics through Chat. To view the steps with graphics, please go to the following HP Web site:

If the issue persists even after trying above document than it could be hardware malfunction and the All-in-One needs to be serviced.

Thank you.

HP G85

The power plug is HP proprietary, you'll have to order a replacement board and a power supply to get around that problem.

ok...first thing...go to www.hp.com and download a fresh set of drivers for your printer, and then restart it and see if that helps. I have that happen to my G85 whenever the power gets awful(not saying that's your reason, but can be an issue)..

got backup?
