Check if the water is getting hot, if it flashes clean seven times, then it is a fault with the water heating system, probably either an heating element, or a defective thermostat.

As I told you , the clean light flashing means that there is a problem related to the water heating system.

I found an extensive description of the problem on this website, I quote:

"The flashing clean light error message, found on Whirlpool and
Kitchenaid tall tub dishwashers, has been a troublesome problem for
technicians and consumers alike for a few years now. If you own one of
these units (circa pre-2006) you may have already experienced the
frustration of a service call, and if you haven’t, count yourself as

The basis of the problem is the control board monitors the water
temperature within the tub looking for an increase during the first
wash cycle. If the increase is not detected by the thermistor
(temperature sensor), the control assumes the heater circuit has failed
and initiates a drain cycle, and begins to flash the clean light 7
times. Once the error has occurred, the only button that will work on
the panel is the cancel button and because the control board remembers
any errors that pop up, disconnecting the power will not clear up the

Now that we all know about the problem, let me talk about the
solution. More often then not, there is nothing wrong with the
dishwasher. Yes you read that correctly. This particular error, and the
way the self diagnosis works, lends itself to being overly sensitive
and once a possible error has been detected, the unit locks up until it
has been reset, and there in lies the solution.

These dishwashers along with the self monitoring diagnosis has a
program available to technicians allowing us to test the units
operation while running abbreviated cycles. By entering, then exiting
this diagnostic program, we are able to clear any control errors, and
get the unit back up and running, or at least verify this was a real
error. The program can be entered easily enough by pressing the
following buttons on the control panel in sequence withing 5 seconds -

    For Whirlpool Products

Heated Dry - Normal - Heated Dry - Normal

    For Kitchenaid Products

High Temp Wash - Air Dry - High Temp Wash - Air Dry

If done correctly (it may take more than one attempt), all the
lights on the display will illuminate and the test cycle will begin.
Once started, the program can be immidiately cancelled (just hit the
cancel button) and the error will be reset. Now restart the normal wash
cycle and if it runs to the end, you know the original error was false
and the dishwasher should be fine. If the error returns, then there is
a real problem with the unit and further inspection is in order by
    yourself or a technician."

The reset reported above for kitchenaid, should work also on Kenmore machines, as they are from the same manufacturer. Here you find testimonials with same temperature problem on Kenmore:My Kenmore dishwasher

If unplugging the appliance for a long time already did not work, then the reset wont probably work.

That means that there is really a faulty part in need of replacement inside the machine.

A faulty heating element, a faulty thermistor are the most common cause for heating problems. The technician will need to test , and eventually replace one of this parts.

If the water does not heat, or heating is poor it will be the element, or a circuit breaker.

If water is heating but cycle does not advance it will be the thermistor.

If you want to call a technician you can use the phone number listed on the user manual, or Browse the Repair Service Directory on Fixya.

Kenmore Ultrawash QuietGuard 3 Dishwasher not draining or rinsing

Not draining may either need new drain motor. or something is blocking the drain pipe.

Spots on dishes means you are using to much detergent or the wrong kind of detergent.

Your owners manuel should tell you what type to use.

Indesit dishwasher DI 450 wont work

I had this problem and you have probably resolved it by now but I thought i would respond so that anyone else searching would get some help!!!

If program 2 and 4 are flashing it means that the filter is clogged and needs to be cleaned. Switch the dishwasher off - take out the filter and clean it and ensure all debris removed from in the filter housing. Pop it back in and switch back on and now the machine should work.

Mine is now running good as new!!

Kenmore dishwasher, model 665.170 344 01. "Clean" light keeps flashing and will not stop. Have tried everything in the manual and the light still will not stop flashing.

If the clean light flashes 7 times, pauses then repeats...

If the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it will stop working and lock the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all buttons are non responsive).

To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...

-high temp wash
-heated dry
-high temp wash
-heated dry

...all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cyle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.

If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring). It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).

Kenmore 16602 dishwasher

Exactly, if the heater is not defective, please do not replace it. I am aware that the owners manual says that if you have the clean light to flash then the heating element may be defective. More times than not the heating element is not defective but the controls can be reset and you can send the unit through a diagnostic test to find out what may be defective.
