Yes the compressor is working. the fridge is pretty much doing what it's suppose to do. after listening to it further i think it click when the compressor goes on and when it goes off. sometimes it's really quick and sometimes it's like 5-10 minutes.

the fridge is cool and the freezer is cold so it seems to be making it's temp. the coils might still be dirty, i did some vacuuming this past weekend. what about the start relay? could it be that? or is it a bad compressor?

I have this problem as well. There is a click, then an electical hum sound for about 4 or 5 seconds followed by another click. This happens frequesntly throughout the day. Both frige and freezer seems to be working fine but I know it's only a matter of time. Anyone know what this could be?

My refridgerator smells like fermented oranges. the smell is now in the water from the fridge and tastes like the bad smell. fridge is a side by side maybe 5 years old, don't know the brand right now....

This may be from the dirt that has accumulated on its drain or inner panels. Clean out the unit. In that way you can inspect the insides. Clean out every corner and drains. Make sure you check the coils at the back of the fridge. You will have to unscrew the panels inside to get to it. Check if there are balls of ice forming on the coils. There may be a leak, and the smell may also be from the freon.

Fridge does not stay cold

If the compressor is running continually, could be short of gas , or a compressor problem, ie not pumping properly, make sure it has plenty of ventilation

Kenmore refridgerator 7 years old

Hi,
If the fridge has a grille round the back that gives off the heat, that might be covered with fluff and spiders which will be reducing it's ability to dissipate the heat from the compressor. It might be worth having a look at that. Otherwise, it might keep going for 25 years like mine has :-)
Hope this helps, D.

Refridgerator freezing food

dm, I'm not sure if the thermostat is mechanical or electronic. Assuming mechanical...and I do...turn it to the lowest number...does it turn off? If this works properly, the problem is likely not the control. Does the compressor turn off at any time? If not after an hour or so of operation, the stat could be defective. That's my first guess. Oh, have you made sure that you don't have the ducts in the freezer blocked? The would deflect too much cold air to the fridge section.

Next, defrost the unit and clean the condenser coils. This will help the unit work properly. Then, wait awhile with the unit off. Meanwhile, access the compressor in the rear of the unit. Find the largest pipe coming out of the compressor. Turn the unit on. The largest pipe should frost and then, in about 5 minutes or so...either cause condensation or dry out. If neither happens and the line is either not COLD to the touch or frosty, you're low on gas. If the unit is less than 5 years old, you may get warranty coverage on the sealed unit from the mfgr. Believe it or not, too little gas will cause freezing in some cases!
