Thank you I have gotten to that part. The belt broke (after many years of good service) The problem is I can not fit the new belt in.. The top gear seems to be one piece and has an hexagonal top that is larger than the toothed gear itself.

Do you have an idea on how to install the new belt. By the way the belt is stiff not elastic.

    Thank you

Thank you. The belt actually goes on the gears quite tight. The square (hexagonal actually) nut on top it is not physically possible to do it. The only other solution I can think of is to open the machine and unscrew the gear from the inside which would be too complicated and I assume I wouyld be risking leaving the machine out of balance. I will take it to the repair shop this week. If there is any other possible solution you can think of I will give it a try.

If I am correct, when holding the tool in the normal operating position there should be an oblong cover on teh left hand side nea the back of the tool. It should be held on with a screw. remove this cover and you can access the belt . MAKE SURE THE TOOL IS UNPLUGGED. the belt should pull off/push on with a bit of force. Turning the pulleys as you put it on will help it go on evenly. If it is too stiff, put the belt in some boiling water for a minute or two to soften it up a bit.

I will see if this model comes up on my computer at work, that way I can have a better look at what's what for you.

By the looks of this, the belt should go over the top of the pulley. It may need some persuasion. The pulley is held on with a small square nut if you do need to remove it.

My Bosch 1276 DVS belt sander abruptly stopped working. Could it be the switch?

that is possible, but was the tool operating properly first?? unplug tool and check the cord for any breaks, then what I would do is clean the tool as good as possible with compressed air and if you can remove the brush caps do so and check the condition of the spring and clean the area. DO NOT sand the brushes but look across the face to see if both look worn evenly. If you have a volt ohms meter check from the plug to the brush holder with the switch on brushes removed to see if you have continuity and if not then I would have to think the switch

Bosch 3 x 21 Belt Sander

Remove the dust bag and unplug sander for now. Everywhere you see an access hole (fan area, dust port, back of sander blow thru the tool to remove lodged dust that clogged the system, Also look for broken belt pieces in the back of sander. Then while running (remove belt) blow again thru all the ports to try and reomve as much contamination as possible. When finished you can feel to see if air coming from dust bag port, it not you still have a clog that might need more work. If I have clarified your request would you please rate this response accordingly and thank you.

Broken drive belt on belt sander

My answer comes almost a year after the original question, but I'll post it anyway for those who end up here after a search.
Black & Decker no longer supplies drive belts for the BR400 sander, but you can get a replacement elsewhere if you know what to ask for.
The belt is a synchronous, single-sided "XL" series belt, and mine had 120XL031 printed on it. The belt width is 0.31in or 5/16in or 7.9mm. Its pitch (distance from tooth to tooth) is 0.20in or 1/5in or 5mm. Its total height is 0.09in, and tooth height is 0.045in. It has 60 teeth, making the total length 12in.
I found a replacement at sdp-si.com, part number A 6R 3-060031.
Look here for timing belts (inch), then narrow the search for single-sided, .200 (XL) pitch, 60 grooves, 5/16 width.

Bosch 3283 dvs sander has unbalanced spin

This means the sander has been droped and the pad support and/or the bearing orbit has been bent, maybe even the motor shaft. Never leave any power tool sitting on a bench, always set it on the floor, it will end up there at some time anyways. You can try replacing a part at a time and spend a lot of money and time, but is it worth it?

here is a parts breakdown. in center of picture is name of website where you can get a download. I cannot figure out if you are removing # 831 or 835 pulley. Either way its righty loosey on nut and you will have to hold opposite end to loosen.
