When the battery light comes on, it is telling you that the car is drawing more power than the alternator is producing, causing a battery drain situation. You could have a heavy drain component causing this, a system short, or you could simply have an additional problem in the alternator, such as a bad regulator or rectifier diode.
I know not everyone has the same results with different equipment but in my experience I would recommend the honda .Ihave had both and the only reasons I ever did anything other than use it was when I bought a new one because I neede more power.The one yamaha that I had was hard to start from new and the few times I needed tech. help I was not happy with the response I got from yamaha.
