HP DVD1040i 20x Super Multiformat Dvd, lost install disk

I'm trying to install a HP DVD1040i drive into a Dell, but I do not have the install disk. Is there anyway I can get the necessary drivers/software online? Do I actually need the disk? Thanks!

Thanks for trying to help! For some reason, the site in which your link sent me to gives an option to either register with them and get the download, or don't register and they'll send a link to the download. Neither options worked for me. They've never sent the email ok'ing my registration or sent me a link to the download. Pity, because this solution was the most promising out of all the options I've perused the net for! Thanks again for your help, though.

try here, scroll down the page a little bit and you will see the download. Once you have downloaded it right click the dvd drive on 'my computer' and click on properties. Then click on update driver, choose 'browse my computer' and locate the driver and install it as the updated driver and it should work.

Note though that if the driver downloads in a zipped file you will have to unzip it first and save it wherever you want it saved.

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/supp... go here and click on start detection for the site to detect your dvd writer. If it has drivers for this it will guide you to the correct page. If it hasn't got the drivers there is a manual that you can download on this site too for your dvdrom. There is also an option to contact HP for support. This may be your best option.

Have you tried right clicking the device in device manager?

Go to Control Panel>system>Hardware>device manager (if using XP) or just Control Panel>system>device mangager if using Vista, and click on the + sign next to your DVDrom, click on properties and then click on update driver. If it asks for your permission to go onto the internet to search, allow it as it may find the driver that you need.

Windows should really have picked up the driver for you when you loaded it on your computer.

Another option is to check the jumpers on the back of your hard drive and the dvd rom. The jumpers are little plastic covers that cover pins on the back of the drives, they can be black, white or yellow. They determine whether your drive will be used for Master or Slave. You will see on the drive what it is set at just above or below the jumper. Some drives say just say M for master and S for slave other drives say Master and Slave. Check your Harddrive, if it says Master then make sure your DVD rom is set to slave, if your harddrive is set to slave then make sure your dvdrom is set to master. See if these solutions help at all.

    I hope they do!
