Question about Sharp AL 1215 Black and White Copier

1 Answer

Trouble Making Copies

Our copy machine is pretty old and it seems to take a long time to warm up, when it finally does the red button on the display keeps flashing. It is the one that is like a triangle with red dots on it. What does that mean? Is it fixable? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Code F4 is being displayed, It says to get a tech. on this. I want to know what the code means.

You have a fuser code caused by the machine not warming properly.
Before you call someone try this.
Press P * C * or # * C * on the machine consol. Then enter the number 14 as if making 14 copies. Then follow what it tells you to do. Some you just press the start button to clear it, some you press 1 then press start.

A picture of a red cylinder blinks on the dispay and the copier shuts down.

This is your Drum Unit replacement indicator.
Reset by pressing "clear" then the far left key on the panel, then clear again then far left again.
So in short form C, far left, C, far left (do this as quickly as possible)
If this is done properly then your display should go blank.
Now key in 24 as if you were making 24 copies and then press the print button.
Now key in 7 and press the print button again.
You should see flashing 000
Turn the machine off then back on and the indicator should be gone. You can usually get 2 times the copies out of a drum unit.
This procedure is also located in my tip on the subject here at Fixya. You can view it at

After making a lot of copies- Dialta 3010 copier jams every time

you probably need you fuser rebuilt. the heat roller melts the toner into the papew. it is covered in teflon. over time the teflon wears off anf toner sticks to it causing paper jams when the copier gets hot

Area where final copies come out of machine making

Sounds like the output clutch. Take the top off the fuser area and clean the clutch.

Locked up AL-1642CS with blinking Drum Light

the clear key may be stuck which seems to lock up your machine. The procedure to reset the drum lite is clear, auto (exposure setting), clear, auto when hit in a timely manner the display will go blank. Enter 24 then press the start key, then enter 07 and press the start key again. If you can't get the keys to work the circuit board may have cold solder joints.
Good luck

No Copies

It could possibly be your main charge assembly. If there is no charge on your drum, it can lead to blank copies.

I have a xerox dc12 with error message please turn machine off and on again 9-363 have tried several times but no good! what else can I do?

That's a process problem with that machine.
May require a service call .ON and OFF is pretty much all a customer can do and wait for it to setup.
NOTE: The problem occurs because of the trickle development system in the machine, making extended lengths of black and white copies / prints does not allow the black developer housing to purge itself of excess waste Toner (Dry Ink) and Developer. There are two solutions for the problem:
  • Make 1,000 copies / prints of a black and white job, then make 150 copies / prints of full color. Continue making 1,000 copies / prints of the black and white job, then 150 full color, and so on, until the entire black and white job is complete.
  • Make extended jobs in groups of 100 by making 100 copies / prints of the black and white job, then allowing the machine to cycle down (return to 'Ready') and making the next 100 copies / prints. Continue in this pattern until the entire black and white job is complete.

Error 7 , the copier seems to be stuck

Give this a try, Just 7 is not normal. Is there a letter appearing first?
But try this procedure.

Performing a Fault Reset 14 will reset your WorkCentre and will help to clear error codes.
  1. Find the pink Clear button on the Control Panel of the WorkCentre.
  2. Find the button below the word Auto.
  3. Press these buttons in the following sequence: [Clear], [Auto], [Clear], [Auto] NOTE: All of the lights on the Control Panel should go out and the LED Display should go blank. If the lights do not go out, then repeat step 3 until they do. It may be necessary to increase or decrease the pace of the [Clear], [Auto], [Clear], [Auto] sequence.
  4. Press the [10's] key one time and the [1's] key four times to enter '14' in the LED Display, as if you were to make 14 copies.
  5. Press the green [Start] button.
  6. Press the pink [Clear] button two times.
  7. The WorkCentre should now warm up and come to ready.
  8. If the above steps do not clear the error code, repeat steps 3 to 6 a second time

Sharp copier AL-1642CS

Here is what worked for me.
You need to alternate pressing the clear button then one of the auto buttons until the display lights turn off.

First press the clear button (red letter “C” on the unit) then the auto button. (below the word auto there are 3 buttons. Press the one on the far left that has no other markings on it. This will only take 2 or 3 times back and forth.

When the display is blank enter the number 14 (like you were making 14 copies of something) then press the Green (start?) button. Let the copier warm up about 30 seconds and try making a copy.

It worked for me. Still having trouble call Sharp USA 630-378-3590 or Canada 905-568-7140. They were quick and helpful
