Re: dvd always says no disc

I used a lens cleaner - after about four goes with it the player recognised all my discs again. You should definitely try that if you haven't already.

Want to play my sounds through my tv or bluray

This unit has HDMI out so if you can connect it to your TV with an HDMI cable it should carry both Audio and Video. You say that it won't play DVDs so it makes me think you might have a bad player that you will have get replace through warranty. If you have it connected to your tv and you see some form of welcome screen come up when you power on the DVD player but it won't play discs I would exchange it. As far as other codec are concerned, it says that WMA and other formats are "available". This seems to mean that they are not pre-loaded but the device is capable of using them after some process is followed to install them. I can't tell from their site if the player has internet capabilities or not. One spec said that it has wireless but no other details. If you can connect it to the internet then I would guess the menu would have a way to update it through the internet adding in the new Codec other wise you might have to download them from another computer and put them on a usb drive to install them.
I hope this helps. Good luck

My dvd player will not play any dvds or cds... It says disc error

how long have you been using this player? The problem should be from the lens (laser).

The lens is weak and that's why it cannot read/load Cd's. The weak lens is also what's making it say disc error.

Get a lens cleaner and use it to clean the lens, but if the lens still does the same thing even after using the lens cleaner, then it means you would have to change the whole lens completely to a brand new one.

By so doing your player would play all Cd's with no problem at all.

Good luck.

My DVD player has had continual playback problems for many months. It skips and pauses often while playing back DVDs and CDs. These same CDs and DVDs play flawlessly in other (much less expensive) players...

Might need a tune from bose repair man, Burnt dvds sometimes has problem but wipe normally fixes it. But cds i have't had problem burnt or orginal, scraches dont usally worry to much, Thats why thinking repair man.
Hope this helps:)
Cd normally hot from unit if its in for a while.

Loading Problem

No Disk issues on device players like DVDs are caused by the following problems

Dirty Play Heads (Optical lens)
Bad CDs or scratched CDs on the surface
Non Compatible CD formats such as DVDs that are designed for some geographical regions and play formats
Also low electrical current is a major problem too

Your issue could reside amongst any of these problems

Check your DVD compactible play formats if its compactible with the CD you want to play.

If its compactible, then I suggest you get a CD Cleaner to clean to clean to Lens.

Also check your current output and if low, get a voltage stabilizer

Check the surface of the CD if its scratched and get a replacement.

Disc reading

hi there

long reading time for cds or dvds only means that there might be dust or residues hindering your cd lens to accurately read the data of the cd/dvd. what you can do is try to clean the lens with a cd cleaner.always check the cd/dvd that you insert are clean and fre of dust . if this still wont work and the player still have the long time to read the cd/dvds, my advise is to bring this to a service center and have this checked out.

hope this helps.

"No Disc"

Here are a couple solutions:

How To Recalibrate DVD Player

For those that are having the skiping up and unreadable disk problems try the following calabration. I did it last night and now my DVD's are much clearer and I'm hoping the skiping problem is gone.

For those that have the lip sync problem Sony should cover this for no charge, you just need to push them a little. This is a firmware update, have a look at the other posts at this web site to find the firmware revision that you need.

Make sure that the DVD player is turned OFF and in the stand-by mode with the little red LED glowing above the on/off button.
To enter the service mode/test mode, press Title, Clear, and Power on the remote.
This will produce the following menu:
Test Mode Menu
0. Syscon Diagnosis
1. Drive Auto Adjustment
2. Drive Manual Operation
3. Mecha Aging
4. Emergency History
5. Version Information
6. Video Level Adjustment

Exit: POWER Key
What each item does;
Syscon Diagnosis = Leave this for service technicians.
Drive Auto Adjustment = Automatically calibrates DVDs and CDs.
Drive Manual Operation = Manually calibrates DVDs and CDs with prompts for permission to skip, execute and/or proceed after each adjustment is made or skipped. Offers a fascinating look at all of the many adjustments made, but this method is time consuming.
Mecha Aging = Allows auto repeat mode for testing purposes.
Emergency History = Shows the number of hours on your machine.
Version Information = Shows firmware version.
Video Level Adjustment = Test pattern.
Press #1 (Drive Auto Adjustment) on the remote and the following menu will appear:
Drive Auto Adjustment
0. All
2. CD

Press #1 (DVD-SL) on the remote and insert a Single Layer DVD when the drawer opens.
Even though you may be interested in calibrating only a dual-layer DVD, do not skip the single-layer calibration procedure. For some reason, the player prefers to first calibrate a single-layer DVD before proceeding to a dual-layer disc. Error messages may result if the single-layer calibration procedure is not performed first.
Press the enter key and the machine will begin to calibrate all of the playback features. When calibration is completed, follow the onscreen instructions to return to the above menu.
When the Drive Auto Adjustment menu returns, press #3 (DVD-DL) on the remote and insert a Dual Layer DVD when the drawer opens. Follow the instructions as noted above.
When calibration is completed, follow the onscreen instructions to exit from the Test Mode Menu. Now you can turn the player back on and try your dual layer discs to see if the layer change has improved.
If you have any concerns about trying this service mode calibration, leave it for an authorized service facility
Other solutions:

1. To reach this test menu on a DAV-S300, press and hold the "STOP" and "Muting" button on your DVD Player (not remote) and turn the volume nob clockwise about 180 degrees. You will see a flicker. A blue test screen will appear, allowing you to calibrate your DVD. Please note that if you have no technical experience, messing around in this menu can cause serious damage to your DVD. The calibration option will be under: option 1, Disc Drive Auto Adjustment (or words to that effect). Be sure to calibrate a single-layer disc first, then dual layer -- you need to calibrate both types. Good luck.

In order for the STOP + MUTE + VOLUME sequence to work, your player must be ON, but have no disc present. You need to empty the tray, power off the S300 and power it back on. Wait until the INSERT DISC/NO DISC prompt appears. Then try the SMV sequence. And you must use the buttons on the unit, NOT on the remote, to enter the service menu. Once in the menu, use your remote to select the auto calibration menu and go from there.

2. This will fix the C 13:00 problem on any Sony DVD player.
With the machine turned off on standby, press the following 3 buttons
on the handset, in order: TITLE CLEAR POWER. The Diagnostic Start menu will come up on the TV. Select the appropriate button number for "auto adjust". The
machine basically does it all. It asks you to select either a single
layer or double layer disc (whatever your offending disc is.) Ejects
the tray, asks you to put your disc in and then calibrates it. (It's
over in about half a second... painless) Just follow the prompts on the screen

DVDs & CDs will not play

If you are playing STANDARD CD or regular DVD that you have purchase and you are having this problem, your dvd player is malfunction;however,if you are playing DVD burner disc or a different dvd region disc(we are region 1 in U.S.) that is no going to work.Same thing for your CD burner disc,it might not work.
If you are using a rental dvd disc, check and see if there is scratches? If so,try to get one without that many scratches!
