Question about HP Printers & Copiers

Open Question

I have an HP 2570 All-in-One and am having trouble with scanning. Having scanned to my computer, I cannot get the OCR facility to work to enable me to edit the document. Is OCR incorporated in the software on disc Q7211-10016? Thanks, Len Hope

If it truely has an optical character reader(OCR) built into the scaner it would not provide the software for it since the software is rather a large program an cost in excess of $100 just by itself. Link to you model support page below:

You have set the machine configuration up wrong You can save the docements in a .doc format and can use Word to modify them If you have scanned them in OCR you have created yourself a nightmare as all of the margins etc will be out I would un-install your scanner and re-install the software taking care of which boxes I was ticking Do not go for an automatic installation as it will put in stuff you will never use

SOURCE: I am unable to copy text from documents to a MS

Hi. You got a bit of a software problem there. Unfortunately, I believe the OCR software is only available in the cd. Not available for download on the internet because it's a big file. If you can't really find the installation cd, you can ask Lexmark for it. The model number of the printer is usually found on the front side. Most of the Lexmark printers usually starts with letter "X". Hope you'll find that exact model. Good luck.

Try to reinstall the OCR scan software by inserting the Lexmark installation disc that came with your printer into the computer hard drive. If you have a firewall enabled, make sure to allow all Lexmark scan and print processes in the program rules or permission.
If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center to request one for free.

Text Cannot Be Edited After It Is Scanned to a Word Processing Program
Issue After scanning into a word-processing program, the text in the original is not editable. Workaround The process of changing text from an image to editable text is called optical character recognition (OCR). Text should automatically be converted in the OCR process when the Send To destination is a word-processing program. If it does not, check the items in the following list:
    • Select Editable Text as the image type in Scan Settings . In Windows XP, this setting is automatically selected if Scan Document is selected in the Director program.
    • Scan at a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi) for correct OCR conversion. Check the default resolutions in the Scan Settings on the Resolution tab.
    • If portions of the scan are cut off, turn off the Auto Crop feature in the Scan Settings on the Scanning tab by clicking to clear the check mark.
    • Tables, text boxes, and spreadsheets might not be editable. The border around them makes the OCR program read them as images. Readiris OCR, which is included with the HP Officejet G and K series, can recognize these images. Instead of selecting the word-processing program in the Send To list, send the scan to Readiris. Use the Table Drawing tool on the right side of the window to change the type of image to a table, and then use the OCR. The text inside of the box should now be editable.
NOTE: Handwritten messages might not be captured by the OCR process.

Scanning document and editing in word

    Hai,

HP Solution center software installed for your printer model has OCR feature to edit the scanned text image, but its not guaranteed.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) programs cannot reproduce a document with 100% accuracy every time. Some manual correction of the page is necessary. The following information might help increase the accuracy of the OCR.

1.You must click Scan Document from the HP Solution Center to begin the scan for the OCR to work.
2.On the Scan Document Button window, select a compatible program in the Scan to drop-down. The perform OCR setting then appears to the right.
3.On the Scan Document button Window, select the Scan Document Settings button.
4.Make sure at least 300 ppi is selected.
5.Remove the setting from Flowed Text in the Scan Settings window. If it is not already selected, select it now. This option will work correctly only in word processing programs capable of accepting this type of output. Microsoft WordPad, for example, will not accept this type of output.
6.Repeat Step 5 with the Retain page formatting setting.

Note: If the above solution didnt work, then you have to buy third party OCR software.

    Thanks & Regards

My document won't give me ocr as an option for editable papers..will only scan as an image..

It's not the printer or scanner, it's the scanning software on your computer that enables OCR. Most free programs won't do OCR, You need something like the add-ons available with Adobe Acrobat.

Can't scan from HP Photosmart C7280 to my Mac Computer

The best way to scan documents from the scanner to your computer is to use HP Photosmart Essential. If you don`t already have it installed it can be downloaded from the HP site. Once in the program it is very simple to follow. It is basically a point and click operation.

Let me know how you make out and we can do other things if this doesn`t work for you.

    Please remember to rate me.

    XP?

Are you trying to use the scanner by the pressing of the SCAN button? cause I'm afraid that feature is no longer supported in the all in one drivers now provided for that machine by HP. You can scan but it must be done via XP's inbuilt features there is a link below to explain XP procedures now required to scan.

    How to scan

They also do not provide Original Character Reconignition software but see this link on YOU MAY ALREADY HAVE OCR SOFTWARE

or if you don't you could try this free OCR program

oh and there is no facility to use the Auto Doc. Feeder on scanning any more.

    Cheers
