Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

SOURCE: install the camera to mine laptop

Yes as Dovi said in the post, you have probably installed XP drivers if you have used the cd rom that came with the camera and they will not work, as Vista is not supported with a driver. I cannot find anything about your SD1000 on the Canon web site, unless there is a similair model you can check. http://software.canon-europe.com/

SOURCE: Computer cannot detect camera at all!

This works for Windows98

1. Uninstall the Canon camera software.
2. Search for "Canon" in the registry. Delete ALL references associated with Canon camera in the registry. Just uninstalling the software will not work. Do not delete any other references to Canon products (printers, etc).
3. Re-install the Canon camera software.

I've had to do this several times. Works every time.

SOURCE: communication error when uploading pictures on computer

I had the same problem. My problem was that there were more than 1,000 images stored on the memory card. Once I deleted some of the images from the camera memory card, I was able to download pictures again.

Go get a card reader and transfer your images thru that. That's the only way I ever transfer my images from camera to computer. You can get one relatively inexpensive...that is...if your computer doesn't already have a card slot in it.

SOURCE: Computer not recognizing my camera when connected

Most of the issues can be solved by either reinstalling the software or by disconnecting and reconnecting the device.
In this case we can close in on three solutions
1) The USB drive in the system is not functioning. Try connecting any other USB devices to the same USB port and check whether it works or not. If the other device works well then it could be a problem with the data cable or with the port in the camera (usually firewire)

2) The data cable used to transfer data might have become faulty.Try using another data cable if possible and still the same issue continues then try connecting another camera to the system and if the other camera gets detected then the problem must be with the camera.

3) Try connecting the same camera to another system and see whether the camera gets detected. If no, then the port in the camera is defective.

After this we can close in on which could be faulty. data cable / Computer / Camera.

Kodak m1033 how do i upload pictures to computor? cannot find answer in small manual that came with the camera

Here are the steps to upload your pictures to your computer from your camera:

1. Plug in the the smaller end of the USB cable which came with the camera to the connection port of your camera which is located at the bottom.

2. Turn on the camera before plugging the other end of the cable to the USB port of your computer.
3. Upon plugging the USB cable to the computer the camera will show a selection: choose Mass Storage by pressing the menu button.

4. Wait for the computer to recognize your camera.
5. Click on My Computer on your desktop and that will bring you to the page of the Hard Drives. That window should show a new drive labeled as E./ or F./
6. Double click on that letter and that will bring you to your cameras storage which contains the pictures saved.
7. Just select the pictures and drag and drop it to a specific folder you want on your computer.

Hope that helps. Thanks.

Can I have troubleshooting help for uploading my pictures using a USB?

The basic steps to uploading pictures from your camera using a USB connection are as follows:

Connect your camera to the computer using the USB cable provided.
Turn on the camera
Go to my computer
Your camera should be listed there.
Double click on it to open up your picture folders.
Select the pictures you want to transfer.
Drag them to the folder on your computer where you want to save the pictures. (The easiest way to do this is to open that folder in a separate window and then just drag the photos there.

If you need additional assistance, let me know.

Need to upload pics from sony dsc-s730 to computer?

Hi there! When you are looking at the back of your camera, on the bottom right side of it there is a little flap that you can lift open to reveal the USB port. You will need the proper USB cord to connect your camera to the computer--it should have come with this cord. The camera must be powered ON when you connect it to the computer. Windows should then automatically give you a popup asking what you want to do. Choose the Open Folder option, as shown below.
memime_0.jpg

You will then see a window with all of your picture files. Copy them all by pressing Ctrl+A and then Ctrl+C. Then open the folder on your computer where you want to save them (such as My Pictures) and press Ctrl+V to paste them.

The other option you have is to purchase a card reader that is compatible with a Sony Memory Stick Duo (which is about half the size of a Memory Stick). Here is a good option:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/642846-REG/Sony_MRW68E_D1_181_Memory_Stick_Duo_.html

With this device, simply insert your card into the reader, then insert the reader into the USB port of your computer. You will get the same Windows popup as shown above, and you can follow the same steps to copy your photos onto your computer.

I hope this helps!

No matter which computer I put my digital camera attachment to download pictures, it will not download pictures at all. It keeps telling me there is nothing attached (camera or scanner) to get pictures...

Since that you already used different computer still its not detecting the camera It means the problem is either On the USB cable itself or on the camera USB slot. Because windows XP vista or Windows 7 has a generic driver for all the camera it should detect all the camera thats been inserted on the CPU.

try to used different USB cable and make sure the USB cable is MODEL U-8 thats the right cable for your camera

Whenever I plug the USB cable into my camera, the screen goes black. It does it even when the cable isn't plugged into the computer. Even though the screen is black the camera still functions normally but...

As far as I know, most cameras are made so that once it senses a USB cable (whether as being inserted physically or as a source of current), it reduces the camera to pretty much no more than a memory card reader.  It is my belief this is so you can't use your camera directly with your computer, either as a web cam or using your computer as an immediate storage device.

You could avoid this problem by using a simple cheap SD card reader. Remove the SD card from your camera, insert the SD card in the reader and connect the reader to your PC/Laptop by a USB cable. You can then useWindows to view and upload your pictures
