You may have a short on the main board causing it to only arc once and then go into auto shutdown mode to prevent the whole thing from catching fire. But first make sure you have all of the parts you are supposed to have or else it will not work properly. You can use this site as a checklist and for more information: http://www.abicorusa.com/AbicutCat.pdf
If this is not your problem, then check and see if is under warranty and send it back to the shop. They will check it and tell you what the problem is and they should be able to fix it for free.

Hi,

This is a specialized power supply (either for single or dual gas). Due to the nature of the design, it is highly recommended that the manufacturer or their authorized service center work on the unit. Other than checking the connections of the torch package and/or the hookup kit, there are no other user serviceable. An alternative is to reference their Download Library or secure a copy of the Service Manual and/or consult with ESAB AB, the manufacturer.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

this could be the problem on the mainboard. it better to check on the convergence area.

A cracking sound when the tv comes on

If it happens only at the moment of turn on that may be normal--the high voltage will make a sound when it comes up.

If it is persistent or very loud it is time to turn the set off--this model does have one issue that may be what you are hearing---there is a high voltage splitter block in the set that does arc--a bit hard to get at.

Let me know if further info on what is happening. A crackling sound is a bit general.

I have replaced 4 of the caps where around where the sound was coming from and the noise has stopped, now the TV is trying to come up but when it tries to power the CRT the same noise was down before goes...

U see or hear any arc on the CRT,than the CRT is dead,it not taking anymore high voltage charges. The FBT probally the cause, because you replaced capacitors around there before.

Mo del no. p60752eb spark when you turn on

SOMETIMES a spark at the spark gaps provided at the sockets of CRT'S HAPPENS. They put spark gaps because some tube arc when the high voltage comes up initially and the spark gaps protect the semiconductors which drive the tube grids the gaps are protecting.

Any sustained arc of course is a no-no. A single snap can occur at times. Watch for anything indicating failure in the normal operation and get it serviced.

High Pitched Squeel and turns on and off 3 times and stays off

This is most likely the death song of the main power supply. They normally operate at frequencies well above the audible range but certain components in the process of failing can cause their oscillating frequency to shift downward into normal hearing range.
The squealing you are hearing is from a dying 'switched mode' power supply and is normally caused by a ferrite-core transformer running at the wrong frequency and complaining about it.
The problem with them is almost certain to be caused by failed or failing electrolytic capacitors (cheap to replace) but continued attempted operation could cause further damage.

This problem is common enough that any half-way competent tech with a capacitance meter could weed out the culprits pretty quick.

I'm tempted to suggest you get these repaired if they were otherwise satisfactory since the our later sets too often seem to only survive the warranty.

If I was doing the repair, I would give you an estimate of under $75. US

Tv went off and won't come back on.

the arcing sound is some kind of high voltage leak, which will shut down the tv. pull the speaker grill off and the access board, look at the 3 picture tubes, turn the set on you will see where the leak is, it's usually the high voltage splitter, which has a high voltage wire going into it and 3 high voltage wires coming out going to the picture tubes, if it arcs from the splitter you need to change it, if it arcs from one of the picture tube wires you need to pull the tube out and fix the high voltage leak, and possibly a cooling fluid leak caused it, not an easy reapir, you probably need a repairman.

Picture snaps off, Sound still come through.

A crackling sound could mean that the flyback's insulation has failed and it is arcing inside. If that is the case then it may stop working entirely pretty soon. Take it to a tech as soon as you can, the flyback is a pretty expensive part, however if it blows it can break the set to the point that repairs will not be worth it.

The loud "pop" sounds like high voltage arcing coming from one of the CRT's.....you may have to pull each CRT out and put silicon sealant on the anode connectors to prevent the arcing.(one of the CRT's may be arcing internally also and the only cure is to replace that CRT) If you let the arcing continue,it will short out the horizontal output transistor sooner or later.......

Sparking Sounds and the picture jumps momentarily.

You need to remove the back and observe where the spark is coming from while the set is on. Dimming the lights may help you. Sometimes you can see a blue glare accompanied by an ozone smell. You might even hear a sound such as a slow air leak in a tire. The most likely area is around the high voltage transformer or the picture tube anode. The transformer has the thick red wire or wires coming out of the top. Also follow the three red wires to the picture tube anode( the place where the red wire plugs into the tube) Use your senses, listen smell , and look for any blue glare or arcing to the metal frame. If you find the leak near or on the transformer use 100% silicone rubber to patch. Allow at least 12 hours to cure. If the arcing is coming from the picture tube contact me for detailed instructions. You must act promptly and find the source of the arcing before you have a dead set. In short, spark + flash = crash. Good luck

Panasonic PT-53WX54 What is that popping noise?

A loud popping noise, like a sharp "snap!", is usually caused by high voltage arcing. Somewhere in the high voltage system an insulator may be cracked or loose, such as the plastic around the flyback transformer or one of the rubber cups on a picture tube. When the high voltage arcs, it momentarily drops and the picture could go out for a split second. High voltage is dangerous in projection sets so allow a qualified tech to service it for you.

dont know about warranties but horizontal lines means your horizontal frequency which runs about everything has drifted off sync and if too high or low it will activate shut down circuits in high voltage and power suppy, even causing HOT transistor to short. good luck and call a tech.
