Question about GE Profile J2B915 Dual Fuel (Electric and Gas) Kitchen Range

F3 code--oven doesn't heat

The oven on my range has been inoperable since I moved in; when I try to set the oven the temperature display does not move and after a few minutes there is loud beeping and F3 appears in the display. I tried as suggested in manual to cut power off at the circuit breaker, but I dare not attempt to disconnect power by pulling out the range. Would that usually work or is it likely to need service and approximately how much will that cost? Thanks!

GE model JSP28GON1BG has F3 showing on the screen and beeps after trying to turn oven on. We have had several repairmen to work on the sensors, display, and several other parts. The last repair was just a few weeks ago. We are about ready to repair it ourself or replace it with a new one. I just need to know where to start.

Deirdre, F3 is a bad temperature sensor. This is the probe that is in the oven that monitors the temp. This is not a hard fix. Depending on who you call hopefully you can get it repaired for under a hundred dollars. If you do it yourself probably under 50.00 for the part...Catriver..post back.

My gas range displays code f3 then shuts off what does the f3 mean

Hi brian_oconne,

The F3 fault code description is open or shorted oven temperature sensor. Check sensor harness and harness connection between oven sensor and oven control. Replace oven temperature sensor (RTD) if wiring is ok.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Range displays code of F4 and stops working

F4 Oven temperature sensor (RTD) shorted Replace Oven temperature sensor (RTD)

The F2, F3 and F4 codes refer to problems with the oven temperature sensor or the keypad. If you see the two-digit F2 code, it means your keypad has shorted and the ERC must be replaced. The four-digit F2-E0 code means that the oven temperature is too high. Test the door lock and the relay operation, and correct as necessary. A two-digit F3 code means an open temperature sensor or thermal fuse, so those parts must be replaced. A four-digit F3-E0, F3-E1, F3-E2 or F3-E3 code or a two-digit F4 code means that either the oven is registering as too hot or the temperature sensor has shorted. Either way, the oven temperature sensor must be replaced.
Hope helps.

Here are the codes for you range:

F0 - E0 Analog to Digital Failure Disconnect for 30 seconds - if display re-appears - replace control F1 - E1 Safety flip flop Replace Electronic Range Control/Clock (ERC) F2 - E0 Shorted keypad Replace Electronic Range Control/Clock (ERC) F3 - E0 Oven temperature sensor or oven temperature sensor fuse opened Replace oven temperature sensor or fuse F3 - E1 Oven temperature sensor shorted Replace oven temperature sensor F3 - E2 Oven too hot Replace oven temperature sensor F3 - E3 Clean temp too hot Replace oven temperature sensor F5 - E0
F5 - E1 and E2 Door latch problem Check door/latch switch, replace if necessary

Looks like yours is a bad oven control. There is a # at the end of your model # 0-5 that will determine which control it takes. Once you have that # you can look it up at http://www3.sears.com/ Looks like the part costs about $165.
