Well you can easily backup using an external hard drive. If you have more than one partition, then you can use one for your backup if it's free.

I already wrote disc but how to overwrite a disc

On a CD-R, if you don't finalize or write protect the disk, can you overwrite a file?

Or in overwriting are you simply creating a second file of the same name in the TOC/directory and deleting the name, only, of the first file

You can add more data if there is space on the DVD+R, but you can't overwrite it.

You see, when a disc is burned, little microscopic ridges are put onto the disc. This is your data.

You cannot overwrite this data.

It's kind of like trying to use a permanent marker on the same spot of paper twice.

CD/DVD driver not working

A few solutions:
1. Have you tried to clean your cd/dvd lens? Probably your lens is getting weak.

2. For advance user: Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
- Look for DVD/CD-ROM drives and delete the subkey.
- Restart your machine.

3. Let Microsoft FixIt help you:
http://support.microsoft.com/mats/cd_dvd_drive_problems/en-us

Worst case - Get a new CD/DVD-ROM for the replacement.

Don't forget to thumb up! ;) Good luck!

RESTORING DELETED MESSAGES FROM INBOX IN NOKIA E-5

I don't like telling people this who ask the same questions but once messages are deleted they are permanently deleted. There is not a way to get them back.
Phones are not computers, they don't have the memory capabilities as computers.
I'm sorry. Thanks

My DVD player is not detected. Checked Control Panel and found there was no driver installed. Where can I download a driver for this. My DVD is a DVD multi recorder.

Welcome to FixYa

Dvd drivers are native to windows so you dont need to download the drivers for this. Here are things you can try to remedy the problem.

1. click on start. type device manager, click on device manager on the results field. (note this only applies for windows 7 or windows vista).

This is what device manager looks like on windows 7

malups_0.png

click the arrow next to dvd/cd rom drives to collapse it then click on dvd drive. press delete on your keyboard. This would delete the driver for your dvd drive and upon restart windows would attempt to reinstall the driver for it. Note that you need to do step 2 before you restart your system

2. click on start then type regedit, click on registry editor on the results field.

click on the arrow next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
click on the arrow next to SYSTEM
click on the arrow next to CurrentControlSet
click on the arrow next to Control
click on the arrow next to Class
now click on the folder 4D36E965-E25-11CE-BFC51-08002BE10318

if you have don it successfuly then it should look like this

malups_4.jpg

On the right pane look for upper and lower filters. delete both keys.

once you have done both steps then restart the computer. Windows should then attempt to reinstall the driver for you dvd drive

Hope this helps

Wont copy .power ok. display ok. writer ok but i thing faulty controller

make sure that the dvd burner is getting enough power test all leads that are attached to the dvd burner including electical extensions and make sure they have a secure connection or just replace them there might be bad/faulty or your drivers may have been corrupted or you might have a virus run your antivrus program you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd burner then plug them back in this should activate the found new hardware wizard or you might have to uninstall then reinstall your DVD/CD or uninstall the driver then reinstall for this device click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd dvd rom drives right click you can you can update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps

Hello, i have a DVD-R disc, 30 minutes, 1.4 GB, handycam and we recorded some videos, one month later our recorder havent´t charge, we conected it for being charged, after that we would like to see...

I am so so sorry my friend, but like millions of other people you too have found that DVD disks for recording movies simply do not work.
The disks are 98% un-reliable for movie recordings and this is why people like myself a Pro Movie maker for 30 years keep telling the silly sods who make movie camera WE WANT TAPE cameras back, and the only one which ever worked well was 8mm tape.
I surgest you call those fools on the Sony line and tell them that you like us do NOT trust these Sony disk cams on 01256 828828 UK number.
I will be pleased if you let me know how you get on, because these disks simply are rubbish.

Prblem playing back DVD

The problem is most likely the DVD player itself not the software. Try cleaning the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Update this if that does not resolve the problem.
