I have the same problem! Door does not shut properly, lets out heat.

  • Anonymous Dec 24, 2008

I have the same hinge problem with my 'super-duper' 8 year old U1661. The door of the big oven never closed properly from purchase and let out a bit of heat. A week ago I removed this door to clean it. Bad mistake. Putting the heavy door back was once again a nightmare and took about 20 attempts. Finally I fitted it back as best I could but it doesn't fit properly and is unuseable. Shame, as we need this main oven at Xmas time for a large turkey.

More than likely not the hinges that are the the problem. On the oven itself there are receivers for the hinges. These are actually pretty cheap and easily get deformed if you apply weight to the door when opened. The weight bends some little stoppers and this means the door hinge is in the wrong angle when closed. You will need to replace these (about £15 each from Neff - should change as a pair). To get them out you probably need to take the bottom of the oven off. Quite straightforward. Take out and lie on its side. remove the screws from the bottom and any that are at the bottom of the back cover. you can slide the bottom plate backwards to release from clip at front and pull away. Receivers are fitted with screw at front (where door seals) and a one at bottom which you can see when you take bottom cover off. receiver just slides out when undone.

Taking apart a NEFF oven door

The inner door glass is held on by two clips at the bottom (hinge side) and two slides near the handle side. Remove the door from the oven and lie it the worktop flat with the hinges uppermost. Near the hinges you will see the glass is angles leaving a triangle of metal frame either side near the hinges.Rest the outside of your hand on the metal for purchase and then pull on the glass along the bottom edge (reasonable tug required) this will disengage the bottom clips and then slide the glass down about an inch to remove completely.

I have had both door hinges replaced on the main oven of my Neff but the door still does not close properly. What is the next step?

I would have gone straight through Neff. If it can't be fixed, your'e supposed to get a new oven out of the deal.

Neff u1661n2gb/05. main oven not working and shorts out electric when try to switch on. top oven works no problem

I had a problem similar. The bottom oven stopped working and the left hand set of controls and clock died. I had three figure quotes for repair. I took the main control unit out from behind the switches, its a pain to do. I took pictures of where the wires went to save confusion later. I removed the main switch unit from the control unit by gently pushing back the inbuilt plastic clips. dont loose the small white connector piece on the end of the switch shaft. I gently pulled the switch knobs from the front then the knob extensions through the same holes. once the unit was out I turned it upside down I could see where two solder tracks on the circuit board had burnt out. I gently cleaned them up and bridged the gap with two short tinned pieces of single core wire I had stripped. I used a soldering gun as it gets really hot really fast and wouldnt damage the components underneath. the only fiddly bit when putting it back together was locating the bottom edge of the control unit in the little gulley, I had to bend the edge of the gulley down to make it easier. Once it was all back together it worked. Half an hour and I saved £300! Now I have to fix the hinges on the bottom oven door as it doesnt shut properly at the top. Any ideas anyone?

Heat escaping, uneven baking, longer cooking times

Either the seals need to be replaced, or you may have weak oven door hinges, and the door is not closing properly.
Only solution would be to replace both hinges if this is the case.

Thankyou.

Oven door not sealing properly and heat escaping

Check the hinges at the bottom corners to see if the spring is still connected and see if the hinge is wore out. The door lifts off the hinge when it's in the partially open position after loosening the screw holding the door in position on the hinge. Slide the oven out a little to access the hinge to replace or inspect.

NEFF oven U1461 - The bottom oven door hinges do not have enough strength to hold the door fully closed. Can these be adjusted and is this something I could do myself?

If the door is a drop down door, then no adjustment is possible, the only solution is to replace both door hinges.

Thanks.

Door does not close tightly ? problem with bottom hinges

Yep, sounds like the hinges/springs have been overloaded.
Dont know if it's a Neff problem in particular, but I had a Neff oven with exactly the same problem - it was already installed when I bought my house.
Spoke to Neff who advised this ocours if heavy things like a roasting tray with a heavy bird / joint in it is rested on the door whilst it's open.
Only cure is new spring/hinge units which are not cheap !

Neff Oven Door Removed Incorrectly

you need to lock the hinges to get the door back.
it needs some strength
lay door flat on floor
force hinge against the spring until right back and put the locking arm over. i use my feet for this!

Neff oven door (U1661)

The door is v heavy and the hinges being right at the bottom take a lot of strain, especially when the door is in 'half open' position. Once the springs start to wear the hinges are no longer strong enough to hold the top of the door firmly closed. Our U1661 is 8 years old and we've had the hinges replaced twice under extended warranty. The second time the hinges they supplied don't hold the door in this position and it will just drop straight down if you don't support it while you open it.

Main oven door will not close properly. Is there any adjustment for it.

This comment applies to most electric ovens that have drop down doors with hinges at the bottom.
The hinges are not adjustable, and in every case the problem is caused by one or both hinge springs being weak.
The only solution, is to replace both oven door hinges together.
